Ronald Keith Koch, 88, of Martinsville, was called home after years of failing health on Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, at 10:24 a.m. while in the comfort of his own home and with his loving wife by his side.

Ron's life began in Gann Valley, South Dakota, on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 1933. He was one of five sons born to the late Bernard Koch and Dorothy Ameilia (Harn) Koch.

The Koch family moved to Goshen, Indiana, when Ron was a child. He and his brothers spent their childhood in Goshen, where Ron also graduated high school. He later moved to neighboring town, Elkhart, Indiana.

While a resident of Elkhart, Ron coached football, basketball, baseball and wrestling at the St. Thomas Catholic School during the late 1960s throughout the 1980s, coaching countless young athletes for over 18 years. His love for sports and children was evident and he will be remembered fondly for his years of dedication, mentoring and friendship.

Shortly after high school graduation, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving his country with bravery. Upon returning from the U.S. Navy, Ron challenged himself to further his education and gained his electrician's license. He was an exquisite electrician and dedicated nearly 65 years of his life to the IBEW Local 153.

Ron also had a love for restoring old cars and working on Modified Flyer Race Cars. He and his brother, Roger, shared the love of racing and spent years racing together on the modified flyer racing circuit. In addition to racing, Ron also enjoyed playing men's softball, golf, bowling, hunting, fishing and riding his motorcyle.

He is survived by a host of loving family and friends including his wife, Norma E. (Hutchison) Koch of Martinsville; whom he married on July 6, 1974; one son, Michael Koch of Elkhart, Indiana; one stepson, Steven (wife, Paula) Pletcher of Indianapolis, Indiana; one stepdaughter, Theresa Pletcher of Germany; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Ron was preceded in death by one son, Rick Koch; one daughter, Debra Koch; four brothers, Richard, Robert, Kenneth and Roger Koch; and one grandson, Kyle Koch.

In honoring Ron's wishes, he will be cremated, and his family will be hosting a Celebration of Life Service at a later date.

The Soptich boys of St. Thomas Catholic Church played football, baseball and wrestling with Ron as their coach for over eight years. Ron was their favorite coach and wasn't surpassed by even high school coaches they encountered. Our family had the greatest respect for Ron and the values he instilled in our boys. Thanks Ron for a job well done which was totally volunteer.
