STATESVILLE — Gordon Daniel Waldrup, 70, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at his residence. He was born in Surry County on June 19, 1944, to the late Essie Mae Waldrup. Danny attended Jonesville City Schools and married Anna Poplin on July 12, 1963. They enjoyed over 51 years of marriage before his passing. They had a wonderful marriage. Anna cared for him during his two-year illness and was by his side as he passed. He retired from the Statesville Fire Department with over 30 years of service and worked for Statesville Nissan after his retirement from the fire department. He was a member of Living Word Ministries. Mr. Waldrup was dearly loved by his family and friends. Each of his grandchildren were very special to him. His precious great-grandchildren lovingly called him "Snuggle Bunny." Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Waldrup. Danny is survived by his wife, Anna; his son, Chuck Waldrup (Jewell); two daughters, Karen Dellinger and Diane Lipke; grandchildren, Danna Queen, 1st Lt. Brandon Dellinger, Amber Waldrup, Natalyn Waldrup, Cianna Waldrup, Ethan Waldrup, and Layton Waldrup; stepgrandchildren, Jasmine Young (C.J.), Morgan Blevins, and Riddick Blevins; and great-grandchildren, Emma Queen and Adyson Queen. He is further survived by a brother, Phillip Harris; and his aunt and uncle, Bill and Estelle Waldrup. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, at Living Word Ministries with the Rev. James Lewis officiating. The family will receive friends at Nicholson Funeral Home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625; or to Living Word Ministries, 347 Jennings Road, Statesville, NC, 28625.
