Darrell Byrd Obituary
Darrell Edward Byrd, age 51, of Elkin, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Darrell was born Dec. 5, 1970, in Wilkes County to Earl Byrd and Margaret Ann Key Byrd. Darrell was co-owner of Outfitters in Elkin and a jack of all trades. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, and friend and was cherished by all who knew him. Darrell was a true servant of the Lord and acted as the hands and feet of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Reece and Cora Byrd; maternal grandparents, Vernon and Faye Key; nephew, Andrew Martin Taylor; brother, Daniel Earl Byrd; brother-in-law, Jamie Billings; special nephews, Dustin Michael Bobbitt and Zachary "Zack" Caleb Bobbitt. Survivors include: his loving wife of 32 years, Claudia Billings Byrd of the home; sons, David Reece Byrd of the home, Darrell Byrd and wife Heather of Elkin, Danny Byrd and wife Zoe of Elkin; brothers, Vernon Earl Byrd and wife Christy of Hays, Bobby Byrd of Jonesville; sister, Sharon Pruitt and husband Randy of Hays; mother-in-law, Mary Colbert of Elkin; special friends, Eddie Bobbitt and wife Sarah of Elkin, Jason Myers of North Wilkesboro; grandchildren, Roxi Byrd and Damon Byrd; and many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly. A celebration of life will be conducted Saturday, Dec. 18, at 2 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. The celebration of life service will be livestreamed on the Elkin Funeral Service Facebook page. I know there are no words at a time like this. All I can say is I know that Darrell is with God and with all of you but I know that your grief is unimaginable. In this time of Christmas joy, the only thing I can tell you is to imagine how happy Darrell will be to spend Christmas with his Lord Jesus Christ. What a celebration that will be. I know you will always miss him, but he is in Heaven and the celebration there is nothing compared to what we will have here. The last time I saw Darrell was Nov. 29, 2021. The reason I know the date, is I went into Outfitters to get my car inspected and serviced and they were swamped. He told me it would be at least 2 hours before they could even get to me, so I left and went somewhere else. He had a thriving business and he was doing well. I am really glad I saw him that day even though I didn't stay. He was polite and nice as always. I will miss seeing him. You take care and if there is anything I can do for any of you, call me day or night. I love you all.
