JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Henry Allen Laxton, 76, peacefully passed away on Jan. 30, 2018, in Jacksonville. Allen was born in Elkin on April 27, 1941, to Lawrence and Katherine Laxton. He was the youngest of three. He graduated from Elkin High School and Atlantic Christian College with a bachelor's degree in 1962, and he spent the next four years serving his country flying fighter airplanes for the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. In 1969, he commenced an extremely rewarding 32-year career as a Delta Airline captain. Allen had recently lost the love of his life and soul mate, Christina, in 2016. He is survived by two daughters, Brook and Devon Laxton; a son-in-law, Michael; a new granddaughter, Sloane; his siblings, Lawrence and Louise; a sister-in-law, Evaline; and his nieces and nephew, Kiki, Jacqueline, Ann and Tom. Allen and Chrissy were adventurers. They built their dream home in Green Turtle Cay, Abaco, Bahamas, sailed the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean and the Adriatic Sea. They traveled the world and experienced more than most. He and his wife spent the last 15 years residing in both Croatia and Florida. Allen will be remembered for his loving heart, infectious laugh and kind smile. He was one of a kind and his passing will leave a void in many lives. A celebration of life will be held at The Old Key Lime House in Lantana on Feb. 25, 2018 at noon. A graveside committal service for both Allen and Chrissy will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the Hollywood Cemetery on North Bridge Street in Elkin. John Kennedy, funeral director, is assisting the Laxton family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at jkennedyfsl.com.
