James "Allen" Turner, 78, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024. He was born on May 18, 1945, to Melvin and Ola Turner. Allen was a member of Fall Creek Baptist Church for over 50 years. He faithfully drove a church van for 45 years. Allen enjoyed the many church bus trips he and his wife, Judy went on. He dearly loved his church family. Allen retired from R.J. Reynolds after 33 and a half years, and then later retired from Statesville Auto Auction after 15 years. He enjoyed mowing and working in the yard. Allen was very humble, had amazing patience, and never met a stranger. He was a very helpful neighbor, always driving his blue S10 truck around the block to gather his neighbor's trash to take off. Allen's favorite meal was chicken tenders and fries. He enjoyed eating at McDonald's and Theo's often. He also enjoyed talking to his special friends at Theo's, Sonia and Eric. Allen was well known for his sayings of "Ain't that something" and "Appreciate ya". He was such a loving husband, dad to his daughters, and "Pa" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Hunter Groce; son-in-law, Steve Pardue; and siblings, Harold Turner and Jerrie Bennett. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judy Lyles Turner; daughters, Sherry T. (Myron) Waddell of Elkin, and Kristy T. Pardue of Jonesville; grandchildren, Nathan Gilliam of Jonesville, Lindsay (Troy) Evans of Bolivia, Matthew Waddell of Fort Cavazos, TX, and Leah Waddell of Elkin; great-grandchildren, Jase and Kanon Gilliam of Jonesville, and Hunter Evans of Bolivia; siblings, Mildred Campbell of Rural Hall, Jack Turner of Advance, and Oleen Bodenhamer of Rural Hall; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family received friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Fall Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville. A funeral service followed at 3 p.m. with Rev. Don Hudson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fall Creek Baptist Church, 3345 Fall Creek Church Rd, Jonesville, NC 28642, or Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to say a special thank you to Woltz Hospice Home for the loving, compassionate care given to Mr. Turner and his family.
