Clarence McDade Obituary

Clarence "Mac" Boyed McDade, Jr., born January 23, 1938, to Clarence E. McDade and Chrissie Gilbert, passed away peacefully at home on August 10, 2012. Mac, as he was known, lived a life of unconditional love and honor. He was a humble giant with an infectious smile and was a remarkable example to all those he came in contact with. Mac was a proud and lifelong Nevadan, born in Battle Mountain, living in Lee, Elko, Las Vegas, and finally retiring and settling in Reno. Mac retired from the State of Nevada in 1993 having worked at the Nevada Youth Training Center and as a Youth Parole Officer. He also served as a Tribal Court Judge for many years before retiring in 2001. Among his extensive accomplishments, he was most proud of his family. His humorous stories of the McDade households brought smiles to all those who listened. Mac enjoyed many things in life including fishing, hunting, bowling, traveling, reading, collecting newspaper articles and knick-knacks, and visiting with his family and friends. Mac boasted he was the proud son of a full blooded Irishman and full blooded Shoshone woman, "with that combination who can go wrong", and was a member of the Te-Moak Tribe in honor of his Shoshone heritage. Mac was honorably discharged from the United States Coast Guard and Army National Guard, and often shared stories and pictures of this time in his life. Mac was a member of many local, tribal, judicial, and national organizations and served on many advisory Boards, but being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was one of his proudest memberships.

Mac enjoyed a full and embodied life and was married to J. Faye Kingston, who preceded him in death, from whom he had four (4) children, Sherri (Leonard) Ledesma, Shauni (Jeff) Miley of Elko, Darold (Doreen) McDade of Pleasant Grove, Utah, and Sharol (Richard) McDade of Reno. Mac enjoyed a second marriage to Adele Myra Cypher, who also preceded him in death, and gained children, Jackie, Julie, Ronald, and Denise Phoenix, all of whom preceded him in death, and Debra (Leo) Harrington, of Sutcliffe. More than anything, Mac enjoyed taking care of and supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren too numerous to name, but each held a significant and special place in his heart. In addition, Mac cherished and enjoyed the close bond he had with brothers, Edward, Marvin, Ernie, and Joseph McDade, of Elko & Lee, and his sister, Gracie Begay of Wells, and each of their extended family members. Other family members preceding him in death include his parents, his loving grandmother,Edie Gilbert, sister and brother-in-law, Margie & Corbin Harney, sister-in-law, Florine McDade, brothers, Joseph Raymond & James Leroy McDade, grandsons, Gionni Finau& Justin Suraco, granddaughter, Shasta Suraco, and his special cousin, Alfred Rooker.

Funeral services will be held Monday, August 20, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the LDS Church Building, 3001 North 5th Street, Elko, Nevada. A viewing will be held Sunday, August 19, 2012 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home, 689 Fairgrounds Road, and one hour prior to services on Monday morning at the church. Interment will follow at the Elko Veteran's Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Robert Quigley, Sierra Nephrology, for the special care and treatment he provided, the staff at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, California Pacific Medical Center, Liberty Dialysis, RSIC Tribal Health Center, and Sierra Eye Associates.
