Gerry Harper Obituary

Gerry Harper

September 19, 1976- May 18, 2021

Gerry was born in Deadwood, SD on September 19, 1976 to Mary (Reiling) and Gerry Harper. Gerry spent most of his childhood in South Dakota with pit stops in Georgia, Germany and Wyoming.

As a young boy he participated in soccer, baseball, wrestling, football and track. He also loved family fishing trips and hunting with his Uncle Larry.

Gerry's elementary school music director said "he has the voice of an angel" and took him too many area churches to sing.

Mining brought Gerry's family to Elko, NV where he attended high school, made lifelong friends and where he lived for the rest of his life. Gerry had a love of the outdoors, especially hunting and snowmobiling. He loved concert tours, counter culture and attending "Burning Man". The love of music never changed, he especially loved heavy metal.

Gerry had a very deep love for his friends and family, addressing his final works and thoughts to them when he left us on May 18, 2021.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerry Harper, Sr., grandparents, Lester and Millicent Reiling and Ralph and Leona Harper; aunt, Debra Becker; uncle, Larry Nelson and brother, Travis Harper. Gerry will be greatly missed by his mom and day; Mary and Mike McKettrick; sisters, Tessie harper-Lorenzen, Allison McKettrick and Charity Baptiste. He is also survived by aunts, Pat, June and Judy; uncles, Bill, Bob Mike, Tim, Rod and Nick and several cousins, especially big brother cousins Pete and Jason.

Gerry was very proud of carrying on a family tradition of gold mining and considered his Deep Post and Leeville crews his family.

As per his final wishes we will be taking Gerry back to his beloved Terry Peak in the Black Hills to spread his ashes on his birthday, September 19.

I worked with Gerry for many years at Deep Post and Leeville. For the longest time I only knew him as "Elvis". I will miss having breakfast with you Brother after nightshift. Rest in Peace. Mary and Mike my condolences and may God comfort your hearts.

Gerry was always fun to be around. I think the most memorable time was when a bunch of went to Salt Lake for a Danzig, Type-O negative concert. We packed my car full of people and took off. That was so much fun. Thank you for sharing your son with us. He will always be remembered with a smile on our faces. My condolences

I had the pleasure of Gerry working for me over 25 years ago. He was a fine young man with a strong work ethic. He always had a smile on his face and a genuine laugh from his heart! He will be sorely missed by all of those that he touched their life. If you can please let me know "If showers are over rated" on the other side!
