Jerry Bussell was our Class Leader at the Adjutant General Advance Course 1-78, Ft. Benjamin Harrison. I got to know him personally very well. He had an ebullient spirit every day, and was a consummate leader of great personal charisma matched with accomplishment. I recall many long conversations, and tossing around a football on several occasions. Just a great guy in every way. We parted ways in 1978 and followed his career and was not at all surprised to learn that he was the Nevada Homeland Security Advisor and recognized as a distinguished Nevadan. I heard from another classmate of that class lately who informed me of his passing. We agreed that he was one of the best, truest and most genuine people that we knew. R.I.P. Jerry.

I also was a Jerry's kid. I worked for him in the G3, where I remained for 6 years. He had an intuition and understanding of what was going on that was uncanny. He treated his subordinates with respect. I admired him a great deal.

I was proud to have known Jerry for the several years I did here in Las Vegas when he was with the ISS at UNLV. His knowledge and experience was only shadowed by his genuine smile and warmth.

I'm sure that Jerry will be missed by all that knew him. Jerry was a distant relative of mine. My twin brother and I graduated from Parsons High School with Jerry. I remember the last time I saw Jerry was at one of our high school reunions. He came in with a big smile and was so happy to see everyone. My sympathies to his family and friends.

Pat, Bobbe & I send our deepest sympathy and prayers to you and Jerry's Family. For those that do not know me, I was Jerry's active duty advisor when he commanded the 1/221 Armor Battalion in Las Vegas. Jerry was the leader of leaders. His energy could not be matched. His vision, his desire to care for his soldiers and his ability to accomplish any task was never matched.
We are so sad that Jerry has departed but know in our minds that he did his best and he'll be there when it is our time. Jerry I salute you!
Pat stand strong as Jerry knew you will. Our thoughts and prayers are with you!

I knew Jerry when he was a young blonde football player at Parsons High School. I have not seen or heard from him since then but I see that he had a successful military career and had an impact on a lot of people. He was always smiling and cheerful back then and apparently has continued that way through life. I am sorry for your loss but know that you have a lot of great memories to help sustain you. It is great that he was so proactive in helping with the financial needs of servicemen. What a great legacy he has left!

I also was known as one of Jerry’s Kids working for COL Bussell in the G4. He inspired all that worked for him to achieve more than they thought possible. He will be greatly missed. Say Hello to my Dad Colonel, and God Bless You.

TRULY ONE OF A KIND
I didn't know Colonel Bussell that well. But one of his best friends was his neighbor, retired judge William Munnell.
Bill talked about Jerry all the time.
With great respect.
That is enough for me.
The story of Jerry's life should be made into a movie.. it would be a really good movie.
With condolences,
Sam Dehne, USAFA '62, Lt Col, USAF (ret)

Pat, Over the past few days as you and Jerry have been ever on my mind, I am repeatedly drawn to the many fights that we attended. There I was always greeted with a BIG smile and intense enthusiasm from Jerry. It was always appreciated and never to be forgotten.

My heart is saddened by the loss of Jerry. I was fortunate enough to meet Jerry and work under his guidance doing research at the UNLV Institute for Security Studies as an intern in 2004 and kept in touch with him regularly over the past 6+ years. His was a life of giving and serving others, our nation and society. He will be missed by everyone whose life he touched. My condolences to Pat and the rest of Jerry's family.

Jerry was one of a kind. His passion, kindness and zest for life could be felt the minute he smiled. He had great stories (i.e. grand piano from the Hotel Del Coronado), but more importantly, he was a great listener and friend to many. I feel very fortunate to have known Jerry and can only say that he will be missed by anyone whose path he crossed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Pat.
