Joseph Martiartu

1973 - 2025

Joseph Anthony Martiartu, 52, of Elko, Nevada, passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2025.

Joe was born in Prineville, Oregon, and moved to Elko at the age of five, where he would grow deep roots and build lifelong friendships.

During high school, Joe was actively involved in the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Program, sparking his dedication to service. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1992. He proudly served four years and was honorably discharged in 1996.

After returning home and exploring his path forward, Joe began a long career with Elko County as an Equipment Operator, where he worked for 18 years with dedication and pride.

If you knew Joe, you knew his passions ran deep. He was a loyal and lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan and a devoted supporter of soccer - rarely missing a game. His Basque heritage was a source of pride and joy; whether playing his castanets, helping the wood choppers or weight lifters at Basque festivities, or simply sharing stories, he celebrated his culture with heart and loyalty.

Above all, Joe loved his family. He was a devoted son, brother, and uncle - steady, present, and always ready to show up when it mattered most.

Joe is survived by his parents, Bonnie Jean and Jose Martiartu; his sister, Elena Martiartu; his niece, Belen; and his nephew, Jake. He also leaves behind extended family including aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly.

A celebration of Joe's life will be held at a later date; details will be announced once arrangements are finalized.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at NNRH and the ICU team in Utah for their care and compassion.

Joe will be remembered for his loyalty, humor, and the way he showed up for the people and community he loved. His absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt, and his memory will remain forever cherished.
