Bernarda Reyes Obituary

BERNARDA LUNA REYES died on April 28th, 2010 in El Paso, Texas at the age of 86. She was born in Ysleta, Texas on August 20th, 1923 to Silvano Luna and Guadalupe Alaniz Luna. She was one of nine children. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Gumersiendo Reyes, her brothers Marcelo Luna, Guadalupe Luna, Francisco Luna and her son Miguel Reyes. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Toni Reyes McGovern (Thomas), Francisco Reyes (Rosie), Jose Ignancio Reyes (Irma), Gumersiendo Reyes, Jr. and Juan Carlos Reyes (Dusty); her grandchildren Francisco Reyes, Jr. (Brenda), Monica Reyes-Hernandez (Rene), Christina, Miguel Reyes, Jessica Reyes, Erica Montoya (Danny), Joe Mike Reyes, Elexia Reyes McGovern; her great-grandchildren: Alejandra, Marissa Reyes-Hernandez, Brianne Reyes, Annette Reyes, Erica Reyes, Joe Montoya, Baby Miguel and Mariluna Reyes McGovern and Christian; and her siblings: Roberto Luna, Flavia Garcia, Carmen Sanchez, Nena Garcia and Grace Castillo. She married Gumersiendo Reyes on January 4th, 1942 and together had six children. Bernarda Reyes lived most of her life in El Paso. She worked side by side for many years with her husband in agriculture and was greatly revered by her customers who remember her with great affection. On the death of her husband, she moved to Lubbock, Texas where she provided wonderful service to the poor through Catholic Family Services and their thrift store. In addition, she was closely associated with the Franciscan sisters at Our Lady of the Angels Convent. She was a member of the Third Order of Saint Francis for over 70 years and was active in the order both in El Paso and Lubbock. She was a woman of deep faith and her life was one of service to others. Visitation for Mrs. Bernarda Luna Reyes will be Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 from 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Funeraria Del Angel Martin East with recitation of the Rosary to begin at 7:00 P.M. The Mass of Resurrection will be Monday, May 3rd, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9205 North Loop Dr. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials in honor of Bernarda Luna Reyes to the Franciscan sisters, Our Lady of the Angels Convent, 8202 County Road 7700, Wofforth, Texas 79382, Catholic Family Services, 102 Avenue J, Lubbock Texas, 79401, or your favorite charity. Service arrangements have been entrusted to the care of FUNERARIA DEL ANGEL MARTIN EAST, 1460 GEORGE DIETER DR., EL PASO, TX. 79936. (915) 855-8881.

Reyes Family,
Our family sends sincerest condolences and warmest thoughts to you. Your father and mother were an integral part of the farming community in Ysleta. Our fondest memories at the farm include both Guemersiendo and Bernarda and Frankie. Your mother was a treasure.
