Deborah Kupfer Obituary

Deborah R. Kupfer

El Paso - Debby R. Kupfer- Garcia, surrounded by family and friends, passed away April 14, 2021, at the age of 60 after a long battle with cancer. Debby was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, sister-in-law, and friend. She is survived by her mother, Rose, her brothers Dov E., Sam (Janet), and Abie (Larry) as well as her niece Dina (Robbie), step-nephew Justin Buehner (Laura), Step-granddaughter, Briana Rodarte, her numerous cousins, her grandnieces and grandnephews, and her beloved dog, Niven. She is preceded in death by her father, Mark B. Kupfer, her husband, Rey Garcia, her step-niece Erica Castaneda (Sergio), her uncle and aunt, Jack and Doris Eisenberg, and her maternal grandparents, Dina and Oscar Eisenberg,

Debby loved the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks as well as the U.T.E.P. Miners and the El Paso High School tigers. After graduating from El Paso High school, Debby went to U.T.E.P. where she graduated with a bachelor's in Social Work. She helped many people in her role as a social worker and retained relationships with some of the guardians at the El Paso State Center.

Debby was a devout Jewish woman and a member of Congregation B'nai Zion. She would attend weekly services at the synagogue as well as the high holy days and events offered by the synagogue. She also attended Chabad Lubavitch services and events. Debby was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity.

There were three projects that were near and dear to her heart. She wanted to get her dad's book (and his story) about the Holocaust published along with her brothers. Her dad's book is called From Darkness to Sunshine: A Young Boy's Odyssey. The second project was going to health fairs to sign up donors for organ donations through the Linking Lives Support Group which she, her husband, and others started. Rey was a kidney recipient. The last project was participating in fundraising activities for the Susan B. Komen foundation and the American Cancer Society.

Debby's warmth and personality would light up a room whenever she entered it. She will be greatly missed by all.

Too young, cancer does suck! I'll always remember Debbies warm personality. I will hold the copy of her Dad's book close to my heart.

Debby was a beautiful soul. I have many fond memories of her with my Red Hat chapter. She had joined a little before her "Reduation"...that's when you become the age to wear the red hat. I gave her a purple outfit and a red hat. We had a lot of fun.
She never had a harsh word to say about anyone and was so kind and went through a lot. She loved animals, too. I miss her and her smile!
