Dorothy HENNESSY Obituary

Dorothy B. Hennessy, 87, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017. Dorothy graduated from St. Mary's High School in Lawton, OK and attended nursing school until she married her husband of 51 years, James (Jim) T. Hennessy. Jim was in the Civil Service for most of their married life so Dorothy moved often and traveled extensively throughout both the U.S. and Europe. She had seven children in 14 years, in six different U.S. cities across five different states. One of her last comments was that she loved all the moving and traveling and thought it was a great experience for her children. Dorothy was very active at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She was past president and treasurer of the Rosary Altar Society and active in the choir. Dorothy also was a strong supporter of Showtime El Paso and Operation Santa Claus at Ft. Bliss, devoting her spare time to restoring over 40,000 donated toys, dolls and stuffed animals. She was also a member of the El Paso Dental Assistant Society for 25 years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Carl and Lois Benke, and her beloved grandson, Shawn Salazar. She is survived by all seven of her children, James (Susan) Hennessy, Deborah (Buzz) Buzzard, David (Laura) Hennessy, Sharon Hennessy, Stephen (Lisa) Hennessy, Barbara (Lynn) Reed, and Gregory (Claire) Hennessy. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Joshua, James and Julie (Anderson) Buzzard, Megan and Nick Reed, Christi Hennessy and five great-grandchildren. She is survived by seven siblings and preceded in death by three siblings. Dorothy had many loving friends who will miss her dearly. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast. Funeral Mass will begin at 9:45am on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. A Committal Service will follow at 11:00am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes Northeast. Please visit online registry at www.sunsetfuneralhomes.net. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Showtime El Paso, or Operation Santa Claus, P.O. Box 16270, Fort Bliss, TX, 79906.

Google morning, dear family. I am praying and sending you peace to help heal your broken hearts.
I am setting at my desk with a cup of coffee working on a stuff animal I will name Sam. Sam needs a nose. It will be a chocolate color. Your mother loved chocolate.
I miss your mother too.
Take care, God bless your souls.

Life is but a journey that we are not not meant to stay but our true home is in heaven and that is where God's path leads.

May the Lord give you strength and comfort in knowing that even as you have said "good-bye" for now, He has said "welcome home" forever to your loved one.
With heartfelt sympathy and prayer to all the Hennessy family, Violeta Groh-Le Master

Barbara, Sharon and family,
What a beautiful mom you were so blessed to behold. I loved your mom, as she played a great roll in being Mom#2 for me. I was always in awe how she worked so hard, did so much for everyone and always smiled. She was always thinking of others and had the biggest, sweetest heart. I loved how her eyes sparkled when she smiled. I think it was God's light shining through. Thank you for letting me almost live at your house while I was a teen. I love you and your family.

Sweet lady,
I can still see the delight in your eyes when you changed a broken stuff animal into a previous gift for a child in need.
Thank you, for letting me be a part of this magic.
Magic indeed because your hands gave love to the hearts of so many children... I will miss you dearly my friend and the fun we had. Thank you again.
Bless you and your family for they know how much you love them also, how proud you are of them.
Sincerely Yours,
Cynthia Ann Dakan
