Eddie Leopoldo Mena Jr., 90, passed away Tuesday January 20, 2015 from natural causes. Eddie was born in El Paso in 1924 and was raised in the south El Paso. He graduated from Bowie High School. He enlisted in the US Army and served in the South Pacific during World War ll. After the war, he was honorably discharged and went to work as a sales rep for Armour Meats and Swift & Co. He also married Marina Ortiz of El Paso. They were married for 67 years. In his free time, Eddie enjoyed golfing, reading, listening to jazz, traveling, gardening, and watching sports, particularly his beloved Dallas Cowboys and UTEP Miner football and basketball teams. Eddie loved visiting his friends and family in Los Angeles. He loved the L.A. Dodgers. He also loved riding the Bowie alumni buses to Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Dressing sharp to dance with his bride was another passion of his. Eddie loved to build things. His biggest project was building a beauty salon for Marina. In addition to his wife Marina, Eddie is survived by sons Arnelo Mena of Dallas, TX, Jodie Mena of Burbank, CA, and his daughter Jheri Mena of El Paso. He has 5 grandchildren -- Sarah Mena of Seattle, WA, Raquel Mena of Austin, TX, Ariel Rojas, Simone Rojas of El Paso and Marcela Mena of Burbank, CA. Visitation will be Thursday, January 29, 2015 from 5pm to 9pm with recitation of the rosary at 7pm at San Jose Funeral Home-East, 10950 Pellicano Dr., 79935 (915) 590-8700. Funeral mass January 30, 2015 at 12 noon at St. Raphael Catholic Church, 2301 Zanzibar, El Paso TX 79925. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Rd, Fort Bliss TX 79906 at 1:30pm.
