Elvira Chavaria Obituary
Austin - Elvira Chavaria, a kind, gentle, sweet and generous person and a loving wife, passed away at her Austin home on April 30, 2020. Born in El Paso, Texas on June 26, 1950 to Jose and Elvira Perez Chavaria, Elvira grew up with her brother Jose Luis and her sister Marta Perez. After graduating from El Paso's Austin High School, she earned a BA in English Literature and a Master's in Library Science from the University of Illinois. She later attended and graduated with a MBA from the University of Michigan. She met the love of her life, John Baker in the early '90s and they married in Central Park on April 27, 1996. Her memorial service will occur once larger gatherings are authorized in Austin. At her request, her ashes will be scattered in the Franklin Mountains in El Paso.

Elvira Chavaria, una persona amable, gentil, dulce y generosa y una esposa amorosa, falleció en su hogar en Austin el 30 de abril del 2020. Nació en El Paso, Texas, el 26 de junio de 1950, hija de José y Elvira Pérez Chavaria. Elvira creció con su hermano José Luis y su hermana Marta Pérez. Después de graduarse de la escuela Austin High School en El Paso, obtuvo una licenciatura en literatura inglesa y una maestría en ciencias bibliotecarias de la Universidad de Illinois. I knew Elvira only during our high school years at Austin High School and she would come into my thoughts throughout the past 50 years. Why? Because I remember her being so kind to someone like me, a socially awkward, shy and overweight high school girl. I remember that she was smart and that she always spoke to me. I am sorry for the loss of this person who I wish I had not lost contact with. Thank you to her family for taking the time to let El Paso know of her passing. It's heart warming to know that her life, as she, was extraordinary.

John, I was so sorry to learn of Elvira's death. She was a charming and delightful person and I always looked forward to seeing the two of you on those too rare occasions that we got together. Best wishes to you as you soldier on.
