It saddens me that I had not heard from Gilbert, thinking he is now really enjoying retirement, then to find out he passed. I have known Gilbert for over 26 years. We became friends after dealings at GECU, always a great friend to chat with or have lunch with. Wow, I am still shocked.

Dearest Martha and Karla,
I was so saddened to learn of Gilbert's unexpected passing. Just heard about it today. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. Gilbert was such an inspiration to me and my daughters. We always admired his quiet reserve and both of you as a couple in your loving expression of caring for any and all. Always so quiet but stoic in his ability to lend tranquility to any situation. He will be and is missed by all who knew him. Never once did we ever see Gilbert in a uncaring or unforgiving mood. He always represented what a good devoted Catholic person he was. We know that only time will fill the ache in your hearts, but know that you are in our prayers and that as a community of St. Pius me and my daughters are there for you. May God give you the quiet strength that Gilbert always personified in this time of your sorrow. May he bless you and keep you wrapped in his undying love, knowing that Gilbert is now with him in heaven keeping watch over you. Our deepest condolences to you and Karla and your family.

Mr. Cuburu was an amazingly generous and giving man. I will never forget what a wonderful catechism teacher he was to me, or how friendly he always was when we ran into each other at church over the years. I will always be grateful to the kindness he showed my family and me. May he rest in peace.

Tio Gilbert was a kind, generous man. No matter how many people were in attendance at a family event, he always made an effort to greet and converse with everyone. Even when there were tensions within the family, Tio Gilbert always managed to keep a smile. May he rest in peace. We lost a great one.

My family and I reach out with open arms to you, dearest Martha, Karla, and the entire Cuburu family, and we embrace you with our deepest sympathies as Gilbert bids you farewell. May the knowledge that Gilbert is merely moving ahead of you, to his final destination, which is to be with the One who called him by name into existence, be of comfort to you.
Gilbert has a head start on us in seeing God face to face, something we too desire, pray for, and hope for. That moment when we will again embrace Gilbert will come. That will undoubtedly be a day of great rejoicing, of joyful tears, and of unparalleled happiness. Walter Scott once said, "Death - the last sleep? No the final awakening." Gilbert has now been awakened by the gentle touch of His loving and heavenly Father.
Upon opening his eyes, he beheld the kindest, most amazing eyes lovingly looking at him, and he was softly spoken to with the sweetest welcome of all. "My beautiful son, you are home. How I have awaited for you to come home where you will live with Me forever in perfect happiness and complete serenity; and, I will engulf your entire being with My perfect love." Upon hearing those words, Gilbert will smile like he has never smiled before; and then, he will burst out laughing with so much gladness and joy.
Gilbert, you have yourself a hec of a celebration in Heaven!!! We will eventually join you at the party, and boy will we all party together...forever!

Martha & Karla;
We are so sorry to hear of Gilberts passing. Schedules here will not allow us to come I and pay our respects. Gilbert meant so much to me as a friend and one who I had the pleasure of talking to every day for almost 31 years. Our hearts and prayers go out to you both and I pray that God comforts you during this time of need. We keep you in our prayers.... Art & Linda Carter
