GRETA MOORE Obituary
MOORE GRETA BORGHILD KARLBOM MOORE (DECEMBER 29, 1930 - DECEMBER 11, 2011) Greta Borghild Karlbom Moore, passed away gently and in peace in El Paso, Texas on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the age of 80 years and as a result of pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, J. Sam Moore Jr., a son, Samuel Adams Moore, a granddaughter, Mia Moore, all of El Paso, Texas, family members in her native country of Sweden including her brother, Ake and a host of valued friends acquired during her residence of over 50 years in El Paso. She was born on December 29, 1930 in Sandviken, Sweden, raised from childhood by her mother, Gurli Karlbom Selander and was educated in the public schools of Sandviken, Sweden. She then emigrated to England to seek employment and to enhance her English skills and later came to the United States in the 1950s where she was employed in various capacities in New Jersey and California before serving as an airline stewardess with Continental Airlines based in Houston and Midland, Texas. She and Sam met in El Paso in 1960 through mutual friends and were married in the Church of St. Clement (Episcopal) here on July 22, 1960. To their marriage there was born one son, Samuel Adams Moore (October 26, 1963). She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1976. In addition to numerous charitable and educational endeavors, Greta spent some years as a real estate broker, retiring in 1995 a year after Sam retired from the practice of law. A quick and active intelligence coupled with an always curious mind served her well through a long and useful life. She enjoyed travel in the United States and to many foreign countries with her family and friends and with membership in such organizations as her Tuesday Book Club, Pan American Round Table and the Center for Lifelong Learning at UTEP and through Sam the Philosophical Society of Texas. She and Sam traveled the United States and the world (Alaska, New Zealand, England and Finland among many places) as enthusiastic fly fishers for trout and salmon (and even pike in Canada and bonefish and tarpon in Belize) and were fortunate to be able to spend many summers at Fish Creek Ranch in Jackson Hole, Wyoming with a trout stream, the Tetons and national parks nearby and with her family and many new and old friends as good companions. All of these endeavors were not lightly undertaken, but were pursued with passion and diligent research and study. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her and especially by her family, for her presence, friendship, intellect, fairness, humor and good spirits. A Memorial Service and family reception for Greta will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 10:30 am at the Church of St. Clement, 810 N. Campbell, El Paso, Texas 79902, with burial in the Moore Family section of Oak Hill Cemetery (founded 1865), Lawrence, Kansas.
