Dawson Springs - LTC (R) José Labrado, age 72, of Dawson Springs, KY, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at The Lucy Smith King Care Center, St. Anthony's Hospice, Henderson, KY. José Labrado was born on September 13, 1948 in Juárez, Mexico, to the late José María Labrado and Consuelo Zambrano Labrado. He was of the Catholic faith. He was a graduate of Jesuit High School of El Paso (1968) in El Paso, TX. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Management from Park College, Parkville, MO. LTC (R) Labrado was awarded a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies (1991) from Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN.

LTC (R) José Labrado's 27-year distinguished career in the US Army reflected a superior record of outstanding performance and encompassed numerous challenging tours of duty. During his Army career, he received numerous awards to include the Army Achievement Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Ranger Tab.

After retirement from the US Army, José Labrado was employed by the Dawson Springs Independent School District as a high school Spanish teacher. He retired after 17 years with the school district.

José is survived by his loving family that includes his wife of 31 years, Dianne Hurley Labrado of Lake Beshear, Dawson Springs; four sons, Carson Joseph Labrado of Lexington, KY, Aaron Joel Labrado of Nashville, TN, Andres (Heather) Labrado of Phoenix, AZ, and José Labrado, Jr. of El Paso, TX; his mother, Consuelo Zambrano Labrado of El Paso, TX; five sisters, Esther (John) Orosco, Dolores (Jim) Scott, Margaret Cabrera, Graciela McEnturff all of El Paso, TX, Guadalupe Reyes of Austin, TX; six brothers Antonio (Emma) Labrado, Pedro Labrado, Juan (Maria) Labrado, Carlos (Susana) Labrado, Jaime (Lilliana) Labrado all of El Paso, TX, Miguel Rangel (Laura) of Los Angeles, CA; 27 nieces and nephews; and 22 great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, José María Labrado, a brother, Francisco Labrado and a niece (goddaughter) Ivette Marissa Labrado.

A Vigil and Rosary Service will be held Sunday, January 10, 2021, at 6:00 PM CST at Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, KY. Visitation will begin at 6:00 PM CST followed by the Praying of the Rosary at 7:00 PM CST.

A virtual service will be held Monday, January 11, 2021, at 11:00 AM CST at the Dawson Springs Resurrection Catholic Church with Father David Kennedy and Elder Jeff Winfrey officiating. Military Funeral Honors will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville, KY.

Le precedieron en muerte su padre, José María Labrado, su hermano, Francisco Labrado y una sobrina (ahijada) Ivette Marissa Labrado. El domingo 10 de enero de 2021 se realizará una Vigilia y Rosario a las 6:00 p.m. CST en Beshear Funeral Home, Dawson Springs, KY. El velorio comenzará a las 6:00 p.m. CST seguido del rezo del rosario a las 7:00 p.m. CST. Se llevará a cabo un servicio virtual el lunes 11 de enero del 2021 a las 11:00 a.m. CST en la iglesia católica Dawson Springs Resurrection con el padre David Kennedy y el élder Jeff Winfrey oficiando.
