Louis Blanchard Obituary

Louis Francis Blanchard, July 1, 1947 - May 20, 2009

Louis F. Blanchard died May 20, 2009, in Singapore, of complications from a stroke. He was born July 1, 1947 in Mexico, D.F., graduated from Burgess High School, El Paso, TX (1965), Texas A & M (B.A., 1969, Geology), and Indiana University (M.A., 1971, Geology). He worked in the oil industry in Houma, Louisiana, the U.S. Geological Survey in Colorado and Utah, and ARCO and Indominco in Jakarta and Kalimantan, Indonesia, in coal mining management. He is survived by his wife, Maelani, Bogor, Indonesia; stepfather, Clarke H. Garnsey, El Paso, TX; sisters Maggi Davidson, Las Cruces, and Barbara Hohenberg, New York, NY; daughter, Kate Shiroff, Denver, Co; son, Alex Blanchard, San Francisco, CA; step-children, Hairani Stroscher and Laila Blanchard, El Paso; Kelana E. Blanchard, Spokane Valley, WA; and Zulkarnain and Sandra Blanchard, Bogor, Indonesia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis F. Blanchard, Sr., and Helen Blanchard Garnsey, of El Paso, and by his first wife, Patricia Lawrence Blanchard. He was buried in Jakarta on May 21. A memorial celebration of his life will be held later this year in El Paso. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contribution to any charitable organization that helps the poor or homeless.
