Dearest Yolie, At least once a week, I think "I have to share this with Yolie!" Then I remember... that we have to continue treasuring your memory without grieving your loss. But El Paso just isn't the same without you and Henry. May the two of you continue cumbia-ing joyfully in another dimension until we join you! Sally

I was stunned to find out in the UTEP alumni magazine that Yoli had died. Though I was acquainted with her briefly as we worked at UTEP during the late '90s, Yoli was known for her loveliness, spirit and intelligence. My sincere condolences to her family...

Words are very hard to find right now to express the loss of one of the most wonderful human beings we have ever known. Your loss is heaven's gain as Yolie right now is entertaining the Dear Lord in His heavenly home. She will always be a part of our wonderful memories. Gilbert and I will keep you and your family in our prayers during this most difficult time.

Henry, Lisa, Stephen and Drea,
I am so sorry for your loss! It's been years since our time at UTEP; but the moments Yoli and I shared were timeless and created some of my most cherished memories. She was a force and one of a kind. Her all-too-brief time with us was spent enriching and improving countless lives. Few can claim to have such an extraordinary legacy. You are all in my prayers.

Such a captivating and optimistic spirit has been taken from our Torero community! Yoli was always planning - strategizing on how to make our campus a better place. I offer my deepest condolences to the Ingle family and am thankful for the example (el éjemplo) that we are left with. I pray that in her memory, we will all strive to make our campus and our world a better place for all. Bendiciones!

Yolanda, my dear aunt, who could have known that your time to go would be so soon?!?!
In your Xmas-email on the 24th of December 2013 you wrote:
“I heard good news from my doctor's assistant... the treatments are helping me, toward the right direction... so,I feel even more positive and hopeful that I will continue to get better and better.In case you are wondering, I am more conscious about what I eat and it has made a difference… take care!
Love you, Yolie“
For some enigmatic reason of fate, you, my youngest aunt and the youngest sibling in the Rodriguez family, were summoned to be the first aunt to leave us behind! I still have many childhood memories of you. When I was just a little boy you used to baby-sit me and other cousins at grandmas. I'll never forget the time you took us out to the movies to see the premiere of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey! The year was 1968, I was 8 or 9 years old and, once the film started, I was to soon realize that this wasn't Walt Disney! Although I was frustrated that I didn't “understand” the film, I did realize that I was being confronted with an incredible work of art. Only years later, when I moved to Germany and saw the film for the second time, did I begin to understand some the film's deeper philosophical implications about humanity's origins and destiny, the symbolic meaning of the monolith and, finally, its allegory of human conception, birth and death.
You have reached life's full circle that Kubrick attempted to depict in his film's allegory of human fate.
Shakespeare's Funeral Song from Cymbeline says the rest:
Fear no more the heat o' th' sun
Nor the furious winter's rages;
Thou thy worldly task hast done,
Home art gone and ta'en thy wages.
Golden lads and girls all must,
As chimney-sweepers, come to dust.
Fear no more the frown o' th' great;
Thou art past the tyrant's stroke.
Care no more to clothe and eat;
To thee the reed is as the oak.
The sceptre, learning, physic, must
All follow this and come to dust.
Fear no more the lightning flash,
Nor th' all-dreaded thunder-stone;
Fear no slander, censure rash;
Thou hast finished joy and moan.
All lovers young, all lovers must
Consign to thee and come to dust.
No exorciser harm thee,
Nor no witchcraft charm thee.
Ghost unlaid forbear thee;
Nothing ill come near thee.
Quiet consummation have,
And renowned be thy grave.
William Shakespeare (Cymbeline, Act IV, Scene)
Dear Henry, Steve, Andrea and Lisa,
I send warm thoughts of sympathy and support to you as you continue life's journey without Yolie.
A poem to help your resilience:
IF FEAR IS LIKE A ROCK
If fear is like a rock
Then I am a hammer.
If sorrow is a fire
Then I am a sea.
When it comes, my heart
Increases its strength,
Like the moon that shines brighter
When the darkness falls.

Art and I were shocked and saddened to learn of Yoli's untimely death. What an amazing woman she was. Because we left El Paso, I rarely got to see her, but a memory that I will always cherish is of the time she came to Denver to host a UTEP Alumni event. Her presentation was professional and impressive, and it is no wonder she had such an illustrious career. The following evening, we were with friends at a downtown sidewalk café when she and a colleague happened to stroll by. We invited them to join us, and the rest of the evening, Yoli enthralled, entertained, and kept us all in stitches with her interesting and hilarious stories. She was a delight, and that evening will forevermore bring a smile to my face.
Our deepest and sincerest condolences to Henry, her children, and the Rodriguez and Ingle families. Yoli was taken much too soon, but may it comfort you to know that she lived life to the fullest and touched everyone she met along the way. Her spirit will live forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

My Dearest and Beautiful, Yolanda (Vomanga) You will forever be the young spirit of comedic and loving energy that flowed through my life for a great number of years. No matter the distance, no matter the years, I can still hear your voice and your infectious laugh, but more importantly how our talks were always about growing upwardly and not outwardly. You gave me so much inspiration.
