TIMOTHY JOHNSON Obituary

TIMOTHY JOHNSON Timothy J. "Tim" Johnson, age 77 and a lifelong farmer in Hamilton County, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023 at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis following a short, but courageous battle with a very aggressive cancer. He was born in Elwood, the son of Gerald W. and Carolyn (Haworth) Johnson. Tim was a 1964 graduate of Walnut Grove High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. Majoring in Economics. Tim was a Lifetime 4-H member and active in FFA. In college, Tim was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Rho agriculture fraternity. As an ROTC cadet, after graduating from college he served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant, stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. Tim loved farming and was devoted to managing Johnson Grain Farms, Inc. a family business designated as a Hoosier Homestead by the State of Indiana with over 100 years of continuous operation. He married Kristin K. Peterson on Nov. 28, 1992, and they shared over 30 years of marriage together. Tim was a longtime member and board member of the Aroma Community Church where he had been active in church functions all his life. He was also a member of the Quincy Masonic Lodge #230 in Elwood and the Scottish Rite in Indianapolis. Tim cared about his community and was a founding member of the Hamilton County Planning Commission. He was also a member of the Hamilton County Board of Zoning Appeals (North District) as well as the Hamilton County Co-op. Tim received several soil and water conservation awards through the years. Tim and Kris enjoyed traveling, but he found the most relaxation spending time at his home and houseboat on Dale Hollow Lake. He loved water and snow skiing. His favorite pastime was entertaining friends and family at the lake. Tim was so many things to so many people. He was a son, a brother, a husband, a second dad to many, an uncle, an employer, and a friend to all who knew him. He was truly a man that had no enemies. He had a heart of gold, and was always looking out for others to either lend a listening ear or his arms for a hug. Tim wasn't just present; he was fully present 100% of the time and always concerned for the well-being of others. Tim will always be remembered for his positive attitude, generosity, wonderful smile, friendly nature, and sense of humor. He was a faithful Christian. His life and legacy will never be forgotten, and he will be dearly missed. Tim's family includes his beloved wife, Kris Johnson of Atlanta; nieces and nephew, Jill A. (Sam) Allen of North Carolina, Jay W. (Malinda) Johnson of North Carolina, and Jennifer L. (Rob) Matthews of Colorado; great-nieces and nephews, Drs. Aubrey (Justin) Hess, Samuel Allen, Jacob Allen, Gabriel Johnson, Lydia (Adam) Dohrmann, Jessie Johnson, Zechariah Matthews, Sarah Matthews, and Adam Matthews; great-great nephew, Sebastian Dohrmann; and mother-in-law, Audrey Peterson of Noblesville. Tim was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James (and wife Janice) Johnson; and father-in-law, Ward Peterson. A funeral service celebrating Tim's life will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2023, at Aroma Community Church in rural Atlanta with Pastor Bill Johnston and Rev. Elizabeth Nickerson officiating. Burial will follow in the Aroma Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the U.S. Army and Elwood V.F.W. honor guard. Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 pm on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood and will include a Masonic Lodge ritual at 7:00 pm. Memorial contributions are suggested to Aroma Community Church or Tunnels to Towers. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfeslermay.com.

Kris, you know Kenny and I love you both and always will. This is the saddest news we have heard. Doesn’t seem real. For some reason, it was his time to be called up to heaven. No one was ready for it. We are so blessed to have known Tim and spend so many fun times and created so many special memories with you both. Tim will be missed so much. He brought a sense of calmness, laughter and fun whenever we spent time with you both at the lake. I know whenever we spend time together at the lake Tim will always be there in spirit! Just watch those beautiful hummingbirds you guys feed. They like your food better than ours.
Love you so much. ❤

I knew Tim from 4H and our times at Walnut Grove. We enjoyed talking about cars and waterskiing at Morse Reservoir. Tim was very good on the water and helped me learn without making fun of my poor ability. As I think about those times, I remember how sincere he was about helping and teaching myself and others. He was
a man of this word and I feel blessed to have know him in those early years. Thank you, Tim for your gifts!!! Blessings on your new journey.

Tim and Kris were one of the first to welcome Richard abd I to Aroma and to the Aroma church.
We loved hearing the stories from Tim about the house we lived in and how his aunt and uncle lived there. Richard would go visit Tim at the office and he always treated him as he would anyone Money didn't matter morals and values did Tim knew my love for cats and would let me visit Kris's foster care cat house which was wonderful Tim will be remembered every time I look out at his fields. Richard and him can swap some more stories up in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with Kris and family

I knew Tim from high school at Walnut Grove, he was two grades ahead of me. I especially got to know him when he sang in the FFA boys quartet and I was piano accompanist for the boys. He sang very well! They used to come to my parents’ farm home near Walnut Grove to practice and what a fun time we had! They were really good singers and we made it all the way to the state competition! The FFA boys honored me by making me their Chapter Sweetheart! I fondly remember Tim as a very kind, respectful, fun and cute young man! I’m so sorry for your loss and offer my deepest condolences. Praying for comfort for all the family at this most difficult and sorrowful time.

Tim didn't hang with the wild boy of the class of 64 but that not saying he couldn't be fun. He was roommate with Lynn Heishman , Don Gentry and me during New York trip. I often wondered if they were able to use that room after we left.

Bill and I became neighbors to the Johnsons in 1990. Tim was always friendly, calm, and neighborly. He was an example of integrity and concern for others. He was quick to plough our driveway when the snows came, share his wisdom and knowledge--a warm smile was a constant. He was a man of courage and personal strength, always ready to help. We are so very saddened by Tim's passing; we will miss him and the whole community will miss him. At the same time, we know he is celebrating in heaven and entering into the joy of a well lived life. Our prayers are for Kris and family; may the arms of our Lord surround you and may His love bring you peace.
In loving memory of Tim, Linda and Bill

I remember being 11 or 12 in the early ‘90s and Tim picked me up from school in his Corvette! We took the s-turns sooo fast with a giant smiles on our faces! Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of flying Tim and Kristin to Grand Cayman several times over the past 9 years. I always looked forward to that trip, getting to catch up with you and all the Aroma news.

Tim always had the kindest smile and such a gentle demeanor. He was a friend to all who met him. I’m so sad to hear of his passing. Prayers for the family. He will be very missed!
