Thomas Murn Obituary

Thomas G. Murn, Jr., died October 28, 2025, after a well-fought battle with cancer. Surrounded by his devoted family along with a compassionate team of caregivers, his final months at home were a time of comfort and love, sharing and laughter. Tom will be remembered for his legacy of love, generosity, and community.

Born on January 8, 1953, Tom was the third of eight children. Tom grew up in a family of medical professionals and he followed his uncle, Brian "Bud" F. Murn, into a career as a dentist. He cared deeply for his patients and provided dental work at the highest standard, while building lasting friendships with his patients, staff, and their families beyond his practice.

Tom truly made a difference in the lives of people around him. To his family, he was the person who helped everyone through the most difficult situations. For others, he took time to get to know what they needed and helped them to grow in their careers, changing the trajectory of their lives. Tom devoted himself to empowering people to reach their goals through educational achievement and future opportunities, including teaching friends to read and encouraging new and formative experiences.

Family was the heart of Tom's world, from Fourth of July reunions in Ely to hosting large gatherings for friends and family during holidays. Tom shared an eternal, unwavering love with his wife, Patty. They were true soulmates with a partnership built on devotion and joy. They loved to bike and golf. They loved to watch the seasons change on Riverside Drive near Munsinger Park.

Tom deeply loved and was immensely proud of his children: Brian and Sarah. Tom was Brian's confidant and one of his best friends. Tom was Sarah's inspiration, as she followed him into a career in medicine as an acupuncturist. Like Tom, Sarah treats her patients with genuine compassion and dedication. Sarah spent the last three months providing exceptional care for Tom through his last days.

Tom found his greatest delight in his grandchildren. Their artwork filled the walls, their energy gave him energy, and their smiles and laughter made his days better. He cherished every moment reading with them, sharing meals, and hearing them call him "Papa".

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Patty; his children Brian (Allison) and Sarah (Josh); his cherished grandchildren Clara, Ella, and Dermot; his siblings Melanie Murn, Mary Erickson (Steve), Patrick Murn (Kathy), and Carey Moe (Mark); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas, Sr. and Mary "Mickie" Murn; his brother, Michael "Kelly" Murn; his sister Shannon Murn, his sister, Therese "Tracy" Murn; and his grandparents, James and Clara Bouska, and Thomas and Mary Murn.

A memorial open house will be held for friends and family at The Marsh, 15000 Minnetonka Blvd in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 11:00am to 2:00pm. A ceremony will be held to honor Tom's life at 11:30 with lunch to follow.

The world feels different without Tom. Those who loved him felt his presence deeply. He will be greatly missed by his family and a wide circle of friends

Murns,
I am sorry for yet another sibling loss to your family.
Tommy and Patty helped me many times get up to Ely to see Len & Putsie. Tommy and Patty drove me up there once, and another time,
Tommy lent me his station wagon to drive up there. He was such a giving person to all. I used to go to St. Cloud in the spring. The Murn
family were so enjoyable to be around. Some of my most memorable
times growing up were down in St. Cloud and up in Ely at the cabins.

Tom and I were best friends growing up on the East side and go to St Augustines grade school. He had the best sense of humor and always had a smile. Great athlete especially little league. Sorry for your lost. He'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
