Jane Davis Obituary
Jane Frances Davis, nee Monzyk, 98, Lee's Summit, died Monday, Aug. 8, 2022, in hospice care at John Knox Village, Lee's Summit, Missouri.
Jane was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Washington, the twelfth of 13 children born to Theodore Monzyk and wife Frances, nee Hoelscher. She graduated from St. Francis Borgia High School in 1942. After working for a brief period for the local newspaper as a writer/reporter, Jane boarded a train for Kansas City to enroll in the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps through St. Mary's Hospital and became a registered nurse in 1944. She met her future husband, Roy Joseph Davis, at the Pla-Mor Ballroom. They were married in 1947 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and settled in Kansas City. Jane was a member of Our Lady of the Presentation Catholic Church in Lee's Summit and a former member of Coronation and St. Augustine's parishes. She was a member of the retired nurse's auxiliary at John Knox Village.
She was guided by her deep faith in God and her dedication to her family. When she wasn't spending time caring for her family, she enjoyed tending to her garden and singing in the church choir. Even in her later years, Jane made those around her happier with her smile, her wit and wisdom and her songbird nature. You could always hear her singing or humming as she went about her day. Jane will be remembered as simultaneously the strongest and most gentle soul, and she will be so lovingly remembered by her family and everyone who was lucky enough to have met her.
She is survived by 10 loving children, Christine Weaver, Janet Hurlbut (Roger), Laura Timbrook (Gary), Annette Campbell (Steve), Stephen, Daniel, Michael, Joseph (Diane), Mark (Terri) and Richard (Cindy). She also is survived by her son-in-law J. Daniel Heschmeyer, and a brother, Richard Monzyk, Washington. Jane will be deeply missed by her family and friends, including 26 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, in 2002; her parents; seven sisters; four brothers; her daughter, Susan Ann Heschmeyer, in 2014; a grandson, James VanLuvan; and a granddaughter, Katherine Jean Heschmeyer.
