Mary Ellen Baker

1940 - 2017

Mary Ellen Baker, nee Schuster, 76, Pacific, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2017, in St. Louis.

Mary Ellen, daughter of the late Kermit Schuster and wife G. Ellen, nee Eggert, was born June 24, 1940, in Washington. As a child, she lived on a farm, east of Gray Summit. On Sept. 10, 1960, she was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Baker at Pacific Baptist Church in Pacific. Three children blessed this union.

Mary Ellen devoted her life to her family. She did all of the usual mother activities when her children were young and still found time to work in the office of the family business, Baker's Ice Company. She was active in the Missouri Valley Ice Mfg. Association, where she held the office of executive secretary, from 1987 to 2002. She also worked on the planning committee of three International Packaged Ice conventions. She was a member of the Pacific Area Chamber of Commerce for many years and an active member and past president of Chapter BU, P.E.O. Mary Ellen also served as a member of the board of directors for Bank Star in Pacific, from 2002 to 2011.

Among her survivors are three children, Dianna Carter and husband Larry, Jill Pigg and husband Mike, and Tim Baker and wife Debbie, all of Pacific; one sister, Anna Lee Shephard, Labadie; nine grandchildren; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; cousins; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Baker, and her parents.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, at Nieburg-Vitt, Thiebes Funeral Home, Pacific, with the Rev. Stan Gibson officiating.

Interment was in the Schuster Family Cemetery.

Memorials may be given to the Tri-County Senior Center or Pacific Baptist Church.
