Michael Ley Obituary

Michael Victor Ley, 57, Washington, passed away Friday, Aug. 24, 2018.

Mike, son of the late Lawrence Ley and wife Henrietta, nee Marquart, was born Sept. 29, 1960, in Washington.

Mike enjoyed the hard work it took to make a farm run, and when he was finished with a long day of work, he would relax in his garden late into the evening, using his headlamp to light the way. It was important to him to have lots of fresh produce to share with his family, neighbors and friends. He enjoyed the peace of nature while fishing for catfish in his lake or hunting deer on a crisp November morning. Mike enjoyed his job at the MFA Co-Op where he had been working for over 10 years.

Mike was a loving and dedicated dad, who cherished the time he spent with Meagan and Thomas doing all the things they loved together. During their time in 4-H, he treasured assisting them with their dairy cattle projects and watching them exhibit at the fairs. He was always super proud of Meagan and Thomas and their many accomplishments.

Michael is survived by his two children, Meagan Ley and boyfriend Tyler Gerlemann, and Thomas Ley, all of New Haven; Meagan and Thomas' mother, Susan Ley, New Haven; 14 siblings, Marilyn Brinker and husband Tom, Harry Ley, Carolyn Kemper and husband Larry, Jerome Ley and wife Mary, all of Washington, Leonard Ley and wife Marlene, Villa Ridge, Lorraine Sarantakis and husband John, St. Charles, Judy Halmich and husband Bill, Arlene Brueggemann and husband Bill, all of Washington, Helen Ballmann and husband Larry, Marthasville, Jane Fleer and husband Daryl, Washington, Ann Ruether and husband Les, Villa Ridge, Theresa Kopp and husband Mike, Washington, Larry Ley and wife Laura, Villa Ridge, and Bill Ley and wife Lisa, Washington; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation was scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Miller Funeral Home, Washington.

A funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist-Gildehaus Catholic Church, Villa Ridge.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

To the Ley family,

So sorry to hear the passing of Mike. He was always one to have a smile on his face. I would see Mike every now and then at the fair with the cattle. I'll always go back grade school and how farming meant everything to him.

Prayers to his kids and the rest of the family. I know it's going to be hard to get through this but you will over time. He will always be remembered.

Jim
