Robert Alan "Rob" Quertermous, 69, Spring Bluff, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Washington.
He was born Sept. 12, 1953, in Marion, Kentucky, to Delmar Quertermous and wife L. Adelia, nee Clark. Rob attended Labadie Elementary School in Labadie and graduated from Washington High School. After completing his education, Rob joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country near the end of the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Kathleen "Kathy" Mullen, March 18, 1988, in Union. The couple made their home in St. Albans and moved to Shawneetown Ford Road in Union a year later to raise their children. The couple settled in Spring Bluff in 2007 to enjoy the remainder of their years together.
Rob enjoyed a successful career as a master carpenter with St. Louis Carpenters Union Local 1839. He retired from the union in 2010 and shortly thereafter, he returned to work with Sundermeyer Ltd. in Bridgeton until he fully retired in 2019. Rob was a talented craftsman who built dozens of custom homes and completed countless custom cabinetry jobs over the course of his career. When he wasn't working, Rob was known to many as a talented handyman willing to take on any remodeling or home improvement project for his family members and friends. He enjoyed staying busy and always had a multitude of projects that he was working on at his own house as well.
Rob loved riding his motorcycle with his wife, Kathy. Together, the two traveled to all 48 of the continental states and visited Alaska. He particularly enjoyed traveling to the western states and loved the time he spent in Montana. He also enjoyed camping, going on float trips and spending time with his family members and friends. The family attended Zion United Church of Christ in Union for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Kayla Quertermous and wife Megan, Spring Bluff; two sons, David Hawkinson and wife Kelly, Mesa, Arizona, and Daniel Hawkinson and wife Jamie, Flagler Beach, Florida; three grandchildren, Owen, Adelyn and Josephine Hawkinson; three sisters, Debbi Ashwill and husband Jim, Lake of the Ozarks, Tina Quertermous and Janice Quertermous, both of Rosebud; two sisters-in-law, Vicky Mullen and Janie Bacon and husband Emmett; brother-in-law, Robert Schultz; nieces; nephews; other relatives and many dear friends.
Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Delmar and L. Adelia Quertermous; parents-in-law, Joe and Bernice Mullen; one sister, Phyllis Ludwick (Gary); and one brother, Jimmy Quertermous.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, at Oltmann Funeral Home, Union, with the Rev. Nicholas Knoblauch officiating.
Burial followed in Zion UCC Cemetery, Union.
