Shirley Maune Obituary
Shirley Mae Maune, nee Schriewer, 87, Washington, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023.
Shirley, daughter of the late Lawrence Schriewer and wife Angeline, was born Jan. 26, 1936, in Washington. She received her education at St. Francis Borgia and studied at the Paul VI Institute of Theology. On Jan. 31, 1953, she was married to James J. Maune at St. Francis Borgia Church in Washington. Their union was blessed with nine children.
Shirley was a lifelong resident of Washington and member of St. Gertrude Church, Krakow. Even with a large family, a job and all the other responsibilities she had, she always found time to share her passion for Catholicism, volunteer at church for whatever was needed and support anti-abortion efforts. She developed a love of sewing at an early age and earned her first sewing machine in 1952 by babysitting her two younger brothers. She initially was hired as a "fancy-stitcher"?at Deb Shoe Company and went on to spend her sewing career at Hazel in Washington. In her spare time, she sewed coats, clothes, bridesmaid dresses and wedding dresses for three of her daughters and one daughter-in-law. One of her last sewing projects was a christening gown she made with her daughter and granddaughter for her great-grandchildren. Her love of sewing showed in everything she made.
With God always first in Shirley's heart, her family were the loves of her life. She was always there to cheer them on and give them a hug after whatever they were doing. She made sure to attend their events and always had a hug and "I'm so proud of you"?immediately after. Shirley loved to write and all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would look forward to special notes in the mail of thanks, encouragement and love. Shirley will be remembered by all who knew her as a person with a very special spirit who was always there to share her wonderful laugh and twinkling eyes with everyone she met.
Among her survivors are her children, Keith Maune and wife Cheryl, Union, Jamie Lakebrink, New Haven, Cindy Frick and husband David, Washington, Dale Maune and wife Dawn, Hermann, Larry Maune and wife Carla, Union, Peggy Adkison, and Andy Maune and wife Cheri, all of Washington; and son-in-law, Greg AuBuchon, Union. Other survivors include her beloved 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; brother, Ronnie (Diane) Schriewer; sisters-in-law, Shirley Maune and Betty Schmuke; brother in-law, Tom (Jane) Maune; many cousins, friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James "Jim" Maune; her parents, Lawrence and Angeline Schriewer; son, John F. Maune; daughter, Kathleen M. AuBuchon; son-in-law, Jerry Lakebrink; grandson, Todd Hoelscher; brothers, Vernon (Katsie), Wayne (Annie) and Kenneth (Jane) Schriewer; and in-laws, Albertha "Bert" (Bob) Breckenkamp, C.J.
