William Blackwell Obituary

William Emmett Blackwell Sr., 90, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2024, in Keller, Texas.

William, son of the late Wilbur Blackwell and wife Magdalena, nee LaBoube, was born Jan. 12, 1934, in Little Berger.

William worked in the Strategic Air Command in the U.S. Air Force and at Kellwood Company in New Haven. He served as a state representative in the House of Representatives in Missouri and semi-retired at age 50 as an insurance agent for Shelter Insurance.

He was an active member of the St. George Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He had a passion for hunting and held many volunteer positions throughout his lifetime. Wherever Bill and Irene lived, he served his community well.

He was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and uncle and was known as a man of integrity and honesty. He served God and his family in all ways and will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Irene Fae Blackwell, Keller, Texas; sons, William E. Blackwell Jr. and wife Kathy, Washington, Gregory D. Blackwell and wife Karla, St. Louis, Douglas E. Blackwell, Indianapolis, Indiana, Garret J. Blackwell, Harlingen; daughter, Penny B. Guice and husband Robert Jr., Keller, Texas; daughter-in-law, Kelly Blackwell Angell, Centralia; 18 grandchildren, Bill III, Jason and wife Carrie, Tara and husband Steven, Tiffany, Alex and husband Garth, Andi and husband Marty, Chandler and wife Ashley, Tyler and wife Bekah, Dustin, Douglas Jr., Angelena and husband Devin, Victoria, Trent, Mandelyn, Magdalena, Brandon, Parker and wife Niccole, Ivy and husband Zach, 21 great-grandchildren, Bella, Abby, Sam, Maya, Sammie, Cole, Cruz, Harper, Carter, Charlotte, Asher, Anastasia, Aurelion, Lux, Sophie, Silas, Cooper, Grayson, Kai, Waylon, Kye; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and a son Glen W. Blackwell.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, at St. George Church, Hermann.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Hermann Food Pantry or St. George Church.

The Blackwell family is being served by Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann.
