George MANSON Obituary

Following a brief bout with cancer, George passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side, in the West Coast General Hospital, on Monday, April 15, 2013, at 65 years of age. Predeceased by his father Donald, George is survived by his mother Gladys; Bernice his wife of 45 years; children: Wendy Thomson (Rob), Brent (Stacey), Angela Wells (Joe), Scott (Tifanie) and Geoff (Kristie); brothers, Ken (Sheila) and Gary; grandchildren: Jenessa, Hayley, Libby, Roxy, Brooke and Austin; great grandchild Ryley, as well as their over 20 foster children that they have welcomed into their home over the past 33 years of foster parenting, in particular Ryan, Sabastian and RJ.

George was born in Islay, Alberta, on April 20, 1947, and moved with his parents to Port Alberni at age 1, where he has lived and worked ever since. George worked in a number of positions and places throughout his career, but was most proud of the company he formed and built with his 2 sons, Manson Renovating. Even with all the busyness of having your own business, family always came first. There was nothing he wouldn't do for his family. George also loved the outdoors, hunting and especially fishing. He was considered a legendary fisherman and often consulted about what was biting or what bait to use.

A celebration of his life will take place at 11:00am, on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 4005 - 6th Avenue. Cremation has taken place. Stories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.chapelofmemories.ca.

What wonderful neighbours!..Thankyou George for dealing with the raccoon that was after our chickens...one shot did it...George was always so helpful...as were his whole family when needed...great work done on our deck...it's solid now for another 60 years at least!!! It was always nice to walk by their home and if George was outside you'd know you'd be in for a good chat!! The celebration of life service was wonderful...great job by Minnie and George's family and the Notre Dame choir.

George was a wonderful man whom I looked up to. I worked with him while Managing Properties at Coast Realty Group. I was new to town and the business and he quickly took me under his wing. I trusted him and have learned so much about property maintenance through him. He was a gentle giant with piecing blue eyes and a heart of gold. We had many heart to hearts, and family was always on his mind. I admired him and will miss him greatly. I haven't had the pleasure to meet all of the family but have spent time with Geoff. I am so sorry for your loss Geoff and the Manson family. Your Dad will be greatly missed. He touched so many lives, lives that I am not even sure you are aware of. Everyone he met felt embraced by his charisma, you couldn't help but feel that you had known him forever. I feel blessed to have had him in my life.
To George- "Thank-you for always being there George, I am so sorry we lost contact over the last year. Being a stay at home Mom has been very time consuming I wish you could see how big Skyla is now. Your passing has affected me deeply, and makes me think about my own Dad. I miss our chats, you wisdom was always appreciated. I admired how you spoke of Bernice, you always told me that she was the best woman you ever met and how deeply you loved her. I hope my marriage is as strong 35 years in. You will not be forgotten my friend. I truly loved you as a child loves a father. You meant more to me then I am able to express but I know you understand. Rest in peace." Love, Michelle

Our deepest condolences to the Manson family, and heartfelt sadness at learning of George's passing. If one can believe that angels walk amongst us, George was surely one of them. It was evident with every conversation with George that his family was everything to him, and he showed us all a heart with a limitless capacity for love. We can all be inspired by the life that he led, and feel blessed for the opportunity to know him.
May God's arms of comfort surround the Manson family at this very difficult time, you are all in many people's prayers.

George was a man of ethics, who was hired to help our organization establish housing by conducting renovations on one of our existing buildings. There were various contractors that our society could have hired but George was an easy choice because he had the same passion and conviction in helping others as our agency had. He was invaluable in helping KUU-US through all the processes involved to get the project going and was tenacious in helping us to get the project completed. Long after his contract with KUU-US was done, we still kept in touch and he provided sound advice. He volunteered his time with our agency with other projects. I remember the time when he helped with a landscaping workbee. When everyone else was worried about two unstable trees on the property- with other younger men looking on- there was george without hesitation climbing the trees with saw in hand and taking on the role of a faller. With one phone call he then had the trees, leaves and branches removed from the property. He was not the type to watch- he was about getting the job done and done right. I was always able to depend on him for advice on other potential projects- some that are still awaiting fruition from his input. George was a man that you could trust, that you could lean on and i will miss his support and guidance. Our society will forever be indebted to him for assisting us when we needed help. To Georges family, on behalf of myself and KUU-US we would like to extend our deepest sympathy for your loss. George will be remembered fondly and will forever be in our hearts.

George was one of a kind. As I read the obituary with a very heavy heart, I also felt that I owed it to George to share how I truly feel. It is for his family, those he touched, loved, and myself that I feel such a deep sense of loss, sadness and heartbreak. But when I think of George the man that I was so blessed to have known, I think of my friend..."the fish whisperer"!! He always had a smile and a story filled with his signature "eh" :) He always had time to teach someone to fish and had a following at Great Central Lake of students and admirers. The lake and our lives were all enriched by George and he will never he forgotten. All of us at Great Central will cherish our memories and our time with him, and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt we will look up and smile at him each time we catch a fish. All my love, hugs and prayers to the Manson family, Danielle Marley
