Joyce Howard Obituary
Joyce was born October 14, 1935, in Enterprise, AL to Harrison and Alice (Walker) Shipman. Joyce was baptized at Friendship MBC at age 12 and graduated from Coffee County training school in 1955. On August 7th, 1954, she married Reuben C. Jones (deceased). Together they raised four children. On July 25th, 2010 Joyce married Willie Howard (deceased).
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings, Daisy Gibson, Robert Zell, Lola McBride, Lawrence Hasker, Nell Mcgowan, Gazetta Diggs, Doris Sanders, Billy Joe Shipman, and Harrison Shipman Jr.
Surviving are her children, Linda D. Smith, Fayetteville, NC, Larry (Joyce) Jones, Miami FL, Jackie Goodwyn, Oxford NC, and Carnell (DeLaine) Jones, Fayetteville, NC. Joyce is additionally survived by a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and other family members.
Joyce received her bachelor's degree from Cameron University Lawton, OK in 1972 and her Masters in Language Arts from Fayetteville State University in 1997. Joyce taught at Fayetteville Technical Institute and in the Cumberland County school system before retiring in 2001.
Joyce was a member of First Baptist Church Fayetteville, NC where she played the piano, and sang/worked with numerous choirs. She was also a member of the Missionary Society and the Stephen's Ministry. Outside of church Joyce enjoyed sewing, gardening, and the beach. She was also a member of the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.
