Beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend Edward Stewart "Ned" Gibbs passed away on Sept. 13, 2006, as a result of injuries suffered in a tragic accident.
During their 37 years of marriage, Ned and his wife, Deborah, had 15 children and 16 grandchildren. He will be missed dearly by his wife and family, who love him so much and look forward to the time they are reunited as an eternal family.
Ned was born May 13, 1951, in Columbia, Mo., to Edward Nowell and Kitty Sue Gibbs. He was the second of four children and grew up on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work and the importance of family life. His family later moved to California, where Ned met and later married his eternal companion, Deborah Helen Cashin, on Jan. 20, 1970, and was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Jan. 19, 1971. They were later sealed for eternity in the Los Angeles Temple on Feb. 18, 1972. Ned showed his love for the Lord through his many years of faithful service.
Ned served his country for eight years in the U.S. Navy. He taught his children great respect for our country and freedom. He attended Brigham Young University, graduating in three years with a degree in manufacturing engineering technology. Ned led his family to Texas, then later back to California, where they have resided since 1985. He lived with his family in Camarillo until 2000, when they moved to Oceanside and then to Newbury Park in 2002. Ned had worked for New Hampshire Ball Bearing in Chatsworth since 2002.
His life was dedicated to his wife, his children and his heavenly father. He freely expressed his love for his children. He loved to sing and regularly did so for his children. He would sit in the hallway at night, singing his children to sleep. He made great efforts to pray with his family every day.
He taught his children to value of work. He built his kids' bunk beds, still used today at home by his grandchildren. He never took shortcuts and always did it right the first time. He praised his wife always and taught his children that there was no greater honor than to love and respect their mother.
Ned is survived by his loving wife, Debbie; children, Nathan (wife Kim), Matthew (wife Jamee), Amber (husband Chris) Johnson, Ginger (husband Juan) Brea, Kimberly, Heather (husband Christian) Johnson, Cameron (wife Heidi), Julia, Lora (husband Adam) Kelly, Vaughn (wife Shelby), Byron, Paul, Sam, Heidi and Maryanne; siblings, Linda (Ronnie) Wallace, Scott (wife Vanette) Gibbs and Meredith (husband Joe) Fiore; father, Edward; and 16 grandchildren.
Ned was preceded in death by his mother, Kitty Sue Gibbs.
Viewing will be at 9 a.m. with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 18, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 35 S. Wendy Drive, Newbury Park.
Arrangements are under the care of Camino del Sol Mortuary in Oxnard.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Edward Gibbs Memorial Fund c/o Vaughn Gibbs at Wells Fargo Bank.

Dear Gibbs family,
Although belated, I really want to express my condolences. I worked for Ned at Core-Vent in Calabasas and loved his steady leadership. He always gave 100% and earned my eternal respect. I'm crushed to learn of his passing, but am also certain he earned passage to a much greater place. Rest in peace Ned; you will be missed greatly!
Sincerely,

Dear Ned Gibbs Family,
Although you don’t know me, for 34 years I’ve been searching for Ned. A few hours ago (at 11:40am), I finally found him, only to find that he has passed on.
When I saw the two dates separated by the hyphen under his (just the same) handsome photo, my heart sank. “Oh, I missed Ned”, I thought. “A year ago he died. I’ve been searching for him all these years, and I missed him.” Yet, though I’ve tried “Google”ing his name occasionally before, he more than likely led me, for no apparent reason, to find your site today. And I thank you so much for making such a site. Maybe these days it’s common, but I’ve never seen one till this morning. And when I saw that you even provided a way for messages, that touched me deeply. Also it’s comforting to be able to share our thoughts.
Soon after, I left this apartment complex’s computer room, and went to my studio, and cried a bit. Then, came back to write this.
You see, Ned was like a big brother to me, in my heart anyway. Although we only knew each other one short Fall semester of my Sophomore year—was it?–up at BYU in ‘73, I know God guided us to meet, as Ned, red-haired, and donning his dark blue Navy coat, somehow happened to sit beside me in our Book of Mormon religion class, I think it was, taught by the famous Brother Cleon Skousen. Ned and I used to enjoy discussing the topics in that old, wooden furnitured lecture room. In reflection, I don’t know if I loved that room in memory because it was so old, or just ’cause that was my time with Ned. Now that time, knowing what I know now, takes on an even more glowing aura to it. Though everyday should with our loved ones, I guess.
And when he invited me to accompany him up somewhere far (far, for this Japanese-American island boy), in his old car, for Thanksgiving–if my memory serves me, I declined for some inane reason of shyness or convenience more than likely. Needless to say, I’ve since regretted that. It would have been a beautiful experience with my brother, I’m sure, just the ride alone, let alone the destination.
After that semester I lost track of him, went on my Japan mission (’74-’76) later that Summer, and never saw him since…even when I returned to the “Y”, taught Japanese at the Missionary Training Center, and eventually graduated in 1980.
But I never forgot Ned. He was too outstanding and made such an impact in my life during that one class, that I never forgot him all those years. I may have even written him once during those days, but the envelope came back, his address having changed…or I imagine? Then through the years I’d call the Alumni House, all the way from Hawai’i where I’d returned home here, but to no avail. I always said “Ned” to the records lady, never thinking or knowing it was short for Edward Stewart, as I do on this day. Guess it was meant to be. That’s kind of my life—those who mean the most to me I have to be away from. But I do thank God above for even a day of knowing Ned. That’s more than I should ask for or deserve, that he blessed my life.
I haven’t yet read all the posts below, wanting to express my feelings at this moment of discovery, but will for sure. Just from glances though, I see he did have a wonderful life, a lucky lady Debbie, and a precious fortunate family—fortunate to have had Ned Gibbs as their father. Although I know he’d claim all of you, Gibbs Family, as his angels, especially you, Sister Gibbs…to me, I’m thinking, especially as I look at his portrait photo here, that he was an Angel on this Earth. I can nearly envision him in white clothing–shirt and tie and pants, shiningly administering to us all, especially you his beloved family.
I miss you, Ned. I’m glad you had a good life. Thank you for it, and for being in mine.
And thank you, Gibbs Family.
“Aloha”, love,
Ron Gima

To the Gibbs family:
We were in the Camarillo ward with your family. Brother Gibbs was always so cheerful and upbeat to those around him. We marveled at his patience and love for his large family. It was an honor to know your family and see, first hand, how beautiful the eternal family can be. May the knowledge of the gospel give you comfort during this sad time, and in the years to come. The Gibbs family leaves a legacy that few people can.

This is obviously a man who was truly loved and cherished by all who came in contact with him. I feel the loss without ever having met him. He was apparently as beautiful on the inside as he was handsome on the outside. Your grief is shared by many, many people and that must bring you a measure of comfort. Our thoughts are with you all. If we can be of help to you in any way, all you need to do is ask.

I will never forget the day Ned joined New Hampshire Ball Bearings. He was introduced to me as Ned with 15 kids! I asked him how he ever managed 15 kids. He said, with a sparkle in his eye, "you'll have to ask my wife Debbie."
My brother being an advid surfer and the same age as Ned, led us to many conversations about riding that perfect wave.
Ned enjoyed music and one day he brought me in a copy of a CD that one of his son's had made. It was titled "Eclectic". It's one of my favorites. I'm glad I will always have that to remember him by. He was a gem of a man. He will be missed greatly.
God bless all of you.

Ned was always so friendly to me and always would stop by my office when I worked next door to him at NMB. That's how I will remember Ned and I wish his family comfort and peace following his passing.

I remember one time when I was in High School being out at C street, a favorite surf spot in Ventura. Some old dude was outside ripping it up on a set coming it. My buddy and I where impressed by the skill of the guy and as we got out closer to the action I recognized that it was Brother Gibbs from church! That was the first of many times that I would see Ned out in the surf at various spots over the years and it was always fun to bump into him and see him surf.
I am deeply saddened by this tragedy, and our family will keep the Gibbs family in our prayers. Ned was a great surfer, and fun guy, but more importantly he was an amazing father and husband. He has left a great legacy through his family and I doubt there are many kids in Camarillo who didn’t have a chance to know at least one of the Gibbs kids. You guys are in our prayers, and we love you.

I was saddened to hear this morning of the passing of Ned Gibbs. I worked for Ned at Vetco Offshore Industries in Ventura in the 80's, and he hired me in 1987 at Teleflex, where I still work some 19 years later. Dear Deb and family:
I cannot begin to express to you my sincere sympathy in the loss of Ned. I was the Elder that Baptized him at the very beginnings of your great family.
Thank you, Deb, for all of your great support to Elder Ross and myself during our stay in Norfolk, VA. Your help and meals really made our job as missionaries easier.
I'll be looking foreward to seeing you and Ned again sometime in the future.
All our love!
Terry and Janet Bird and family.

Ned was a great father and husband. He loved life and his family. I admire how he always had a cheerful and upbeat attitude. He is a great example of how to lead a good life and raise a good family. I loved to hear him sing his boomerang song. He was very entertaining. I am so sorry for his loss. He will be missed dearly.

I was shocked to learn of Ned's passing. He was a great guy to be around inside and out of church and a good role model for all of the guys I grew up with.

Dear Debbie and Family,
I was so privileged to teach Ned as a missionary and comfirm him a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
I was blessed to meet you again as we attended BYU together and profit from your friendship. His contagious smile and out going nature have always been admired and appreciated. I was so impressed with your family that I named my first son Nathan, too. I will miss him dearly.
I hope your family memories will help sustain you through these difficult times. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
