Barry Plouse Obituary

Barry Thomas Plouse, age 51, resident of Edinboro, Pa., died at his home on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Born in Spangler, Pa. on July 1, 1962, he was a son of the late Wade P. and Alberta B. Patty Plouse.

Barry was a dedicated father, husband, brother, and friend who was an inspiration to many and will be greatly missed. Despite being confined to a wheelchair for the past 30 years, Barry overcame many obstacles and lived his life to the fullest. He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, kayaking, and boating. He was the co-owner of Trans 58, a transportation logistics company located in Edinboro.

Barry's family includes his wife, Tanis Boden Plouse and their daughter, Ramey E. Plouse; four brothers - Samuel Pelchar (Karen) of Oakridge, Tenn., Wade "Rusty" Plouse of York, Pa., Edward Plouse of Dover, Pa., and Cecil "Scott" Plouse of Edinboro, Pa.; one sister - Margaret "Bunny" Bracken (Dave) of Mineral Point, Pa.; his nieces - Taylor Pelchar, Shawna Bracken, Amber Bracken, Whitney Plouse, Morgan Plouse, and Talyn Boden; and his nephew Tyler Boden.

In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Taylor Cunningham.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial service to be held Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 12:00 noon at McLane Church, 12511 Edinboro Road, Edinboro, Pa. Pastor Brian Kelly will officiate.

Memorials may be given to the Regional Cancer Foundation, 2500 West 12th St., Erie, PA 16505, or to the Kanzius Cancer Research Foundation, 130 West 8th Street, Erie, PA 16501.

Arrangements were provided by the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Edinboro, and condolences may be shared at www.vanmatrefuneralhome.com.

You can shed tears that he is gone, or you can smile because he has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that he'll come back, or you can open your eyes and see all he's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see him, or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember only that he is gone, or you can cherish his memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what he'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.

6 years... how can it be. I have so many memories with one of my best college buddies, Barry. I think of you often, especially today. You left us for a better place where you can walk again and are an angel watching over your family and friends. I hope that you and Brad are laughing about all of our good times at Edinboro University. You were an amazing friend all through college and our adult life. I can't begin to count the number of people that you inspired along the way. You are thought of often and will never be forgotten by any that were blessed to know you. Love ya, Bar, and miss you tons.

Tanis, I am so sorry to hear of Barry's passing. You were at the head of my prayer list. I am so grateful that I was able to provide some little level of comfort with you both times of turmoil and to you in a time of happiness. Thoughout his struggle you were both so positive you were without a doubt the most supportive spouse i have had to pleasure to meet. I have never seen two people so much in love.
Carry on knowing that Barry is watching over you and your family.

Tanis, Scottie, Bunny & All... I don't know what to say except I'm sorry. I'm sorry Barry was taken so young. I'm sorry I didn't stay in better touch during our adult years. I'm sorry I can't tell him how much he meant to all of us from his youth.

I could fill pages with all the stories. Mostly how his sense of humor drew everyone to him. From when he carried me into the school nurse from the playground in 2nd grade to toga parties and post-graduate road trips. The laughter will never be forgotten.

Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

To all of Barry's family and friends,
We are all heartbroken over the loss of this amazing man. He truly was an inspiration to everyone that met him. I remember when I worked at HealthSouth and asked him to mentor my spinal cord injured patients, he did not even hesitate. He gave his heart and soul to all that knew him. Tanis and Ramey will be at the top of my prayers, along with the rest of his family and friends. Too many to count. Take comfort in your memories, and knowing that he is finally at peace and able to WALK through Heaven's gates.

Much love,
Toni, Mike and Joli

Hey Tanis and Ramey,
Life has been short and challenged by so many things. I remember a time when it was so hard not to be angry at God for changing our plans in life. But, it was through inspiration and faith that opened our hearts to see the sun again. You have the amazing gift of strength and a daughter that will help see you through. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. We love you!

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

PEACE & BLESSINGS!
