Edward Jerge Obituary

Edward J. Jerge, age 83, of Erie, passed away Thursday, September 29th, 2011 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Erie, August 7, 1928, a son of the late Joseph F. and Mary M. Sheehan Jerge. Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Jerge Service Station, formerly on the corner of East 26th and Parade Streets. He was a member of St. Joseph Bread of Life Church, a member of the former East Erie Turners, the Zukor and Seibenbuerger Clubs. Ed enjoyed watching hockey especially the Pittsburgh Penguins. He loved to laugh and share jokes, as well as spending time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diana Pulakos Jerge, May 4th, 1993; two brothers, Rev. Joseph W. Jerge and John T. Jerge. Surviving are three sons, James E. Jerge, wife Sue, of Littleton Colo., David R. Jerge, wife Mary, of Waterford, Pa., and Gary M. Jerge, wife Penny, of Clearwater, Fla.; three grandchildren Renee, Eric, and Ryan Jerge, and one great-grandchild, Jonah; one brother Jerome F. Jerge of Erie, Pa. Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St., Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. and may attend services there Monday at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Bread of Life Community Church at 10 a.m.. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Barber National Institute. Condolences to www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com

Jim, I was sorry to read about your Dad. Growing up on Sunset and Parade Blvd was wonderful-we were so fortunate to have caring parents, great places to play, and a safe environment. My condolences and prayers to the Jerge family at Ed's passing. His smile and sense of humor will surely be missed by all who knew him. My memories of working at Jerge's Mobil Station with all of the Jerge boys are some of the happiest years of my life.

Dave,
I'm sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. He was a great guy with a great sense of humor. I used to run across him at lunch once in awhile out in Girard (Wendy's)when I was working at Spectrum in Fairview and he always had a smile and a joke for me. Betsy and I send our sympathy to you and your entire family.
