Elinor Carr Obituary

Elinor Friel Carr Teacher, Christian Educator Elinor Friel Carr, age 89, of Wisconsin and formerly of Pine Avenue in Erie, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Kirkland Crossing Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin. Born in Columbus, Ohio on March 23, 1915 she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine Allen Friel. She was a graduate of Wattsburg Area High School and had attended Wooster College. She was a former Christian Education Director at Wayside Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. She was the Director of the Roger Williams House, and the Director for the Resource Center for the Lake Erie Presbytery, and served on many Presbytery committees including Christian Education. She was involved with many ecumenical events when John Mark Gannon was Bishop. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth R. Carr, in 1997; and a half brother, Allen Phelps. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Jamieson and her husband John, of Annapolis, Md. and Eileen Pierce and her husband Keith, of Brookfield, Wis.; a son, David K. Carr and his wife Barbara, of Oak Hill, Va.; and seven grandchildren, Christopher and Kevin Jamieson, Matthew Pierce and his wife Shelly, Karen Gillette and her husband William, Laurie Pierce, Michael Carr and his wife Tara, and Brian Carr. She is further survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home 602 West 10th Street on Sunday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. The family will greet friends at Wayside Presbyterian Church, Monday, from 2 p.m. until the time of services at 3 p.m. and again following services with the Reverend Keith Sundberg and the Reverend James Haas officiating. Burial will be in East Greene Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be made to Wayside Presbyterian Church 1208 Asbury Road Erie, PA 16505 or to the Presbyterian Homes of Wisconsin (Kirkland Crossing) 700 Quinlan Drive Pewaukee, WI 53072.

To the Family of Elinor Carr: We extend to you our heartfelt sympathy at your loss. We have known Elinor for over 40 years and loved her dearly. She was a great influence in our church life. We will miss our sweet friend who loved to talk about her grandchildren.

My sympathy to the family of Elinor Carr. I met her at Wayside Presbyterian Church. She was a most kind and thoughtful lady; wonderful with children, and I don't ever remember seeing her without a smile.
