Elizabeth Malc "Beth" Dwyer obituary

Elizabeth Dwyer Obituary

Elizabeth Malc Dwyer "Beth," 50, of Cornelius, N.C., formerly of Waterford, Pa., passed on February 9, 2014. She was born on February 9, 1964, in Painesville, Ohio, to Virginia Louise (Malc) Miller of Erie, Pa. and the late Edward Stanley Malc.

In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband James Joseph Dwyer, III; stepchildren, Melissa Covert and husband Marty and granddaughter Madison Covert of Cornelius, N.C.; James Joseph Dwyer, IV and wife Ronda and grandsons Owen and Brody Dwyer of Waterford, Pa.; stepfather William R. Miller of Erie, Pa., and stepsisters, Claudette Miller and Kathleen Mele of Chicago, Ill.; and beloved nephew Alex Pacoe of Cornelius, N.C.

Beth graduated from Allegheny College, where she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She obtained her Law degree at the University of Toledo School of Law and joined the Erie County Bar in 1990, subsequently becoming an independent practitioner in 1996. Although she specialized in Family Law throughout most of her career, she also served for a number of years as Solicitor for the Erie (Pa.) County Council and, briefly served as an Assistant Public Defender. More recently she had served as a Dependency Lawyer, representing parents in matters relating to the County Office of Children and Youth.

She owned her own building in the historic district that adjoins the Erie County Courthouse. Since her building was built over the bed of the Erie Extension Canal, which had connected Pittsburgh with Lake Erie, she decorated her reception room and conference rooms with canal memorabilia. When, due to her failing health, she had to give up her law practice, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania accepted the entire collection and it has become the core of an exhibit at the Erie Maritime Museum

Beth enjoyed gardening and animals; she spent her free time walking the Dwyer's two black Labradors (Otto and Reuben). In the evenings you could find Beth snuggled up with her two cats, (Zelda and Loci).

A funeral mass and burial is being planned for early May. She will be laid to rest beside her father in the Edinboro Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held following her burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House, 11900 Vanstory Dr., Huntersville, NC 28078, or your local Humane society.

James Funeral Home of Huntersville is serving the family. www.jamesfuneralhomeLKN.com

Jim and Family,
Beth will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her and loved her. Her ability to be brave and positive in the face of adversity over the years is part of the legacy she leaves to all of us. She was well accomplished professionally in her short lifetime which goes without saying. However, it is her infectious laugh and generous heart that I will always remember most about her. The world is a better place as a result of her life and we in turn are better as a result of having had the honor to have shared this time with her.
With love to you and the family at this difficult time,
Michele

My condolences to Jim and all of Beth's loved ones. I learned of her passing from a fellow Aloha Gam sister..Beth and I lost touch after we graduated from Allegheny, but now as I think of Beth, the first thing that I remembered about her was her robust, infectious laugh..

Dear Jim & Family,
God has taken our dear Beth home to become one of his special angel's. Special she was in every way - always had a kind word for everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her, had a deep love for her family, was respected as a professional and lived her life as a gift from God. Beth was called home on her 50th birthday and all who passed before her were there to help celebrate as she received her wings.
May all the wonderful memories we shared with her
help to ease the pain of your loss.
We send our love to all of you .
God Bless,
Dennis, Lois & Michael

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
