Gaines Myrtle Hill

Gaines Hill Obituary

A retired worker with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system and Southern University A&M College, and a resident of Scotlandville, she died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at Our Lady of The Lake Regional Medical Center. She was a graduate of Southern University Laboratory School, a member of AARP and a member of the Senior Choir of Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church. Religious service at Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 1414 Sora St., on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Fred Jeff Smith. Visiting at Carney-Mackey Funeral Home, 1576 Robin St., on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and continuing at the church from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. She leaves to cherish her loving memory two daughters, Dr. Joyce H. Polk, Baton Rouge, and Dr. Yvonne M. Knighten, M.D., Oakland, Calif.; two sons, Muhammad Abdurrazzak and Isaac Hill Jr., both of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Darrell E. Hill Jr., Shawanda D. Hill, Tykoboom R. Hill, Tameka L. Polk and Zachary K. Hill, all of Baton Rouge, Cleveland Mishawn Knighten Ill and wife Lucia Helena, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Kimaniece V. Hill-George and husband Derrick, Houston; 12 great-grandchildren; four nieces, Ora Gaines Lee, Ruby R. Ennis, Eurydice R. Miller and Mabel Jackson; four nephews, Harry Chavis Gaines, Harold Elliot Robinson, Judge Bruno Gaines and John Henry Gaines Jr.; six sisters-in-law, Asuncion B. Gaines, Doretha Keller, Gustava Wilson, Olevia Clay, Marie Johnson and Gertrude Smith; a brother-in-law, Wilbert Hill; and a host of relatives and many, many friends. Preceded in death by her father, Wesley Elliot Gaines Sr.; mother, Martha Scott Gaines; son, Darrell Ewell Hill Sr.; brothers, Edgar, Ernest, Harry, Wesley Jr., Matthew, Willie and Henry Gaines and Lee Smith; and sisters, Carrie and Tillie Gaines, Mary Bell Gaines Robinson and Berthera Elizabeth Gaines. Pallbearers will be Muhammad Abdurrazzak, Isaac Hill Jr., Zachary K. Hill, Judge Bruno Gaines, Darrell Ewell Hill Ill and Kevin Phillips.
