1916-2011 Georgianna M. Hartman at age 95 years, slipped away from this life peacefully on Wednesday, September 28, 2011, at the Sarah A Reed Retirement Center where she had lived for the past four years. The family thanks the Sarah Reed nursing staff and immediate caregivers for their care and concern, especially Linda Jewell during her stay there. The daughter of the late John J. and Josephine Retzbach Hartman, she was born on February 22, 1916. A lifelong resident of Erie, she devoted her life to her family, caring for her mother until her passing in 1966. Prior to moving to Sarah Reed, she made her home with her sister, Barbara (Alphonse) Dopierala. She had attended St. Ann School and later East High School. Georgie had been employed as a young girl at Gehrlein's Market, as a child care giver for many families, then at the Erie Burial Case Company prior to employment in the Parts & Service Department at the Arthur F. Schultz Co., where she retired from. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church. Georgie enjoyed reading, bowling, going to the movies and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed caring for the children of family and friends. Later in years she said she had just one regret in her life and that was that she had no children of her own. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Joseph (Rose), Edward (Sally), John (Stella), William (Nita) and Bernard; two sisters: Clara ( Roy) Aichner and Eva (William) Jant; three nephews: Paul, Edward and John 'Jack' Hartman. Georgianna is survived by her sister, Barbara (Mrs. Alphonse) Dopierala; sister-in-law Betty (Bernard) Hartmann, nieces Charlotte (Charles) Chase, and Beverly (Joseph) Pochatko, Barbara (Michael) Schmidt, Ann Marie (Fred) Sipple; nephews William (Heather) Dopierala and Richard Dopierala; and many other nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 East 38th St. Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend services there on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 a.m.at St. John the Baptist Church.
