Joanne M. Miller

Palm Desert, California Joanne M. Dunnigan Miller 86, of Palm Desert, Calif. transitioned to the arms of God on June 16, 2012. Joanne was born in Erie, Pa. on July 8, 1925 to Elizabeth Druke and Arthur J. Dunnigan. After graduating from Strong Vincent High School, Joanne was hired by J. Edgar Hoover in Washington D.C., where she worked for the F.B.I. It was in Washington D.C. where she met her future husband, Paul A. Miller, USMC. When WWII broke out, Joanne joined the U.S. Navy from which she was honorably discharged at the end of the war. After the war she married Paul, and returned to work in the private sector. This was pretty unusual for women in the late 50s and early 60s. Joanne managed to be a successful career woman and raise a family. She eventually retired in the late 70s as a Vice-President of San Diego Federal Savings and Loan. Joanne and Paul were happily married for 53 years, and raised four children. Joanne is survived by two sons, Paul Arthur Miller (Linda), Carlsbad, Calif.; Robert A. Miller (Jackie), Henderson, Nev.; daughter Joni E. Miller, Palm Desert, Calif., seven grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband Paul, son Richard E. Miller, grandson Steven C. Miller, and great-grandson Richard A. Miller. On Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. a memorial Mass and celebration of her life will be held at Pathfinder Community of the Risen Christ Catholic Church in Bermuda Dunes. Joanne will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband Paul. May God's love and peace envelop her now and always.
