Larry Trimmer Obituary

Larry Chester Trimmer, 64, of Belle Vernon, Pa., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Born in Philadelphia, Pa., on April 9, 1953, Larry lived his childhood years in Erie, Pa., where his parents were the original founders and co-owners of the Country Fair Food Chain. Larry graduated from Iroquois High School in 1971, where he was a champion wrestler and received a wrestling scholarship to Lehigh University. Larry lived in Monongahela, Pa., where he spent most of his adult life before recently moving to Belle Vernon, Pa.

Larry recently retired on February 1, 2017 after 30 years of service at Bechtel Bettis Corp, working as a lead fluids and chemical technician for the Nuclear Navy and received several awards for his outstanding contributions to the program. He enjoyed reading, bowling, playing with his dog Abby Mae, and watching his beloved Cleveland Browns. He once got to meet owner Art Model in Canton Ohio at the Football Hall of Fame celebration. In the brief time they were together, he was able to give Art some obviously poor advice.

Horseshoes was one of Larry's favorite games to play with his dad and brothers at every family picnic. He was also a hard-core pinochle player in many family all night games. His fantastic memory made him a valuable teammate or despised opponent.

He loved cooking and kept his pantry stock piled with 50+ cans of various soups, vegetables, and tuna fish, and his spare freezer full of steaks, chicken, beef, and pork roasts. To say the least, Larry was a delight to his brothers and sisters when they told him they were visiting, which, of course meant he would have to go shopping for more food… lol. When he wasn't cooking, he was especially good at arguing politics, unless it was with his sister Debbie.

Another favorite pastime was watching Judge Judy berating the litigants. No one, I mean no one, was to call him during the 3-5 p.m. timeslot while she was on. He wanted justice served. He also liked to travel to baseball parks during the summer with his brother-in law, Joe. They went to places like Milwaukee, Chicago, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Boston, and their favorite, New York City, because his sisters lived there.

Larry could be very eloquent when writing. He wrote poetry, excellent letters, notes and obituaries, not like this one. Yet if anything in the house broke down he would be able to fix it, including his cars. He was very smart, versatile, and enjoyable, and will be greatly missed. Rest in peace.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Lorraine; his two children, Michelle Brown (Matthew) of Tracy, Calif., and Michael Heim (Lauren) of Girard, Pa.; his four grandchildren, Kailey, Connor, Owen and Clayton; his loving siblings, Debra Gornall (Joe Felice) of Erie, Lynn Trimmer (Michael Sheldon) of Manhattan, N.Y., Jessica Trimmer Vahling (Nathan) of Buffalo, N.Y., and Raymond Dinello (Becky) of Charlotte, N.C.; his stepmother, Barbara Trimmer of Lakewood, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Lisa Trimmer of Phoenix, Ariz.; and brother-in-law, Dr. John Blaho of Manhattan, N.Y. In addition, he was an Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his loving parents, Anna Mae and Edgar Harry Trimmer; his sister, Jacqueline and two brothers, Edgar and Kenneth.

Friends may call at the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., 2607 Buffalo Rd., on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. with sharing to be held at 6:30 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held there on Monday at 10 a.m. with burial to follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

I remember Larry and Ed wrestling with my brothers years ago at Iroquois for Mr. Sinnott. My brothers remarked about how talented the Larry and Ed were. They were both gone too soon. Rest in peace.

To the Trimmer Family:
This note of condolence is belated, however, most sincere. I just recently was made aware of Larry's passing and
was a high school classmate at Iroquois. Truly, his kindness, generosity and respectfuless to all he encountered were outstanding qualities.

Condolences to the entire Trimmer Family. I have many fond memories through wrestling and The "Country Fair" experience where Larry , Eddie and I probably (undoubtedly) caused dad more stress as employees than he anticipated. RIP Larry.

Lorraine and Family, my thoughts and prayers are with you, this was very shocking to hear. I worked with Trim for many years in the steam generator facility and his willingness and creativity helped us through many equipment challenges and big work efforts. He was fun to work with, and in the recent years we compared notes on our upcoming retirements. I hope he was able to get some enjoyment out of his post work time.

It is hard to say goodbye to a neighbor that you grew up with and is taken too young. I want everyone to know that he was a great person and was very much loved. He is in heaven now and heaven is a loving place. That is the only comfort I have and I hope the family can take comfort in time.

What I will miss most? The friend who would argue with me about the Pittsburgh vs Cleveland football game. The first time I met Larry and Lorraine was at a Steelers/Browns game at 3 Rivers Stadium. I went to the bathroom and when I came back, I see a Browns fan dressed in brown and orange from head to toe in my seat. Not only was my seat tainted now, he kicked my beer over! It was the beginning of a great friendship. Lorraine, if you ever want to go to a Pgh. vs Cleveland game, call me, you can have my seat anytime. I will miss my little buddy.
