Okay...so it is Jan. 5th and it still seems so surreal! Linda, you are with me everyday in my thoughts and prayers, as is Matt and Sarah. I will miss Mike's hair:-), his hugs!, and his sense of humor. I regret times passed that I didn't get to visit more...but appreciate the impact of our friendship! Love and Hugs to you!

Linda, Sarah and Matt, Aaron and I have the fondest memories of growing up with Mike at LORD and the great times we had as a group. We've never had such great chemistry both at work and at play. The bonds we created with you and Mike, Barry and Jan, Steve and Karen, Craig and Sue, Karen, Jim and all the rest will stay strong in our hearts forever. We will always think of Mike with a smile and a quick remark that would always make us laugh. The Mike Austin Memorial Scholarship will benefit local students wishing to study internationally. The Austins hosted several wonderful exchange students, Matt & Sarah studied abroad, and Mike and Linda loved how traveling made the world a much smaller place.
Study abroad programs still leave some expenses to the students, and in Mike's memory we aim to help overcome the financial hurdles for those with ambitions to learn another language and culture firsthand.
Contributions by check can be made out to "Erie Community Foundation", a 501c3 who will administer it. Write "Mike Austin Scholarship" on the Notes line. We plan to have a website and online contributions set up in a few weeks.

Mike and Linda were my extended parents through grade school and all the way through high school before I moved to Florida. I always respected and cared for them as they were my own blood. Knowing Mike, has made me a better person.

linda, he was and still is a great friend, someone that i had a pleasure to meet. everytime i would see mike, no matter how happy or sad i was, would allways lift my mood up higher. one heck of a driver, and a friend. he will be missed, but deffinatly not forgotten.

Linda and family --
I have worked with Mike for over 15 years, from when we were supervisors in the machine shop to his current role. Mike had a unique ability to bring humor to some very difficult situations. He always kept those around him grounded in what was truly important. I will miss him very much and will keep you and your family in my prayers.

I regret that I am physically unable to be with you in your time of grief. However, I share in your loss as my life was certainly enriched by having Mike as a stepson, (and I hate the negative connotation stepson implies), for 35 years. May he rest in peace with his Dad.

To: Linda, Sarah, Matt - I am so sorry for your loss. As a quality engineer working with suppliers, I got to work with Mike more directly over the last 3 years. I liked and respected Mike. He was down to earth and reasonable. As Aerospace Sourcing Manager, I appreciated how he dealt with me. He never made me feel that he had a more important position. Dear Linda, Sarah, and Matt~ We were devasted, when learning about Mike's sudden passing. After unsuccessfully attempting to sift through the logic and reasons of this tragedy; then trying to calculate an answer as to the "Why Mike was robbed of life in his prime," I reverted back to the one glimmer of hope that has carried me emotionally through other losses. The Good Lord needed one highly experienced race car driver for his All Star Team. He will always be a winner in our eyes and hearts. We'll miss him dearly at our gourmet dinners. His teddy-bear like presence and warm grin lit up the room. His gift of story telling will remain vividly in our memories. We're wishing you comfort in friendship. Mike not only was one of the best bosses I worked for he also shared a passion for racing. He served as the Regional Executive of the car club. He was an outstanding RE and it was a pleasure working with him. I have many fond memories of the autocrosses that we worked to produce then competed in. Mike had a smile and a pleasant way about him that made him always a pleasure to be around. He will be dearly missed.
