Nancy E. McCommons Kerner

Nancy E. McCommons Kerner, age 92, of Erie and formerly of Maryvale Apt's, died Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center. She was born in Albion, Pa. on October 13, 1917 a daughter of the late Frank and Blanche Coughlin McCommons. Nancy graduated from Albion High School in 1935 and St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1943. Over the years, she worked for St. Vincent Hospital, the Dr's Hospital, Hamot Hospital, was a Private Duty Nurse and retired, at age 60, from the Erie Veteran's Administration Hospital. She was a member of St. Jude's Church, St. Vincent Alumnae and the Private Duty Registry. She volunteered at Our Lady's Christian School Cafeteria and enjoyed bingo, playing slots and sports, especially women's basketball and golf. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983, Robert Kerner, a granddaughter, Heather Elise Kerner, two sisters, Alice McCommons and Mary McLaughlin, two brothers, Herbert and Earl McCommons and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Kerner. She is survived a daughter, Eileen Behringer and her husband Mark of Erie, four sons, Robert Kerner and his wife Dorothy, Gerald Kerner and his wife Janet and James Kerner all of Erie and David Kerner of Long Beach, Calif. Ten grandchildren, Stephen Kerner of Mich., Erin Kerner of Erie and Conn., Hilliary Kerner of Australia, Amber Kerner of Calif., David Kerner of Ohio, Daniel and Dennis Kerner of Erie, Liza Elias of Erie, Ashley Behringer of Va. and Colleen Selleny of Erie. Ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Friends may call on Monday at the Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home, Inc. 2502 Sassafras St. Erie, PA 16502 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to a service there on Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Jude Church at 11.
