May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Our lives were touched and blessed by Phyliss' love, encouragement, prayers and friendship in the years that we attended Bethel Baptist Church. Our lives were better for knowing her.

Loved your Mom and Dad. They did so much for me when I was in my teens and early 20's. They helped me grow my faith in Jesus and served Him faithfully. I will always remember their family also, had alot of fun getting to know them. MAY GOD GIVE YOU COMFORT AND PEACE KNOWING THEY ARE WITH HIM. PTL

Dear Audrey, Joy, Janet and Alan-
It is with mixed emotions that I read your mother’s obituary – saddened because she is no longer with us, but gladdened in that the Lord decided she had accomplished all the things that He needed for her to accomplish here on earth and that it was time for her to hear, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant”.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s, several women of faith “adopted” me, either as the son they never had, or just because they saw I had a need that they could fill. “Mommy Nelson” was the last of those wonderful ladies to be called home to heaven. Regretfully, due to a prior commitment, I will not be able to say “good bye” to her on Saturday. But thankfully, I *was* able to chat with her a couple years ago at SMOKEY BONES.
All the time I was eating my dinner that night, I kept glancing at this woman a few tables away. I thought to myself how much she looked like Mommy Nelson, whom I had not seen since your father passed away. Thankfully, as my wife and I headed for the door, I had the courage to stop at her table, introduce myself, and say, “Excuse me, but you remind me of someone I know who used to sell AMWAY products.” Needless to say, it *was* your mother. She and Janet (or was it Joy?) were enjoying a meal out together – and we were all able to spend some enjoyable moments catching up on the happenings in each other’s lives.
I will always remember and cherish her smile, her “open door” policy at the house, her kindness, her wit, her humor. But most of all, I will remember her faith and the commitment she had to live that faith in every aspect of her everyday activities.
With tears in my eyes,
