Pia Scalzitti Obituary
Pia N. Scalzitti, age 95, of Erie, died Saturday, August 3, 2013 at UPMC Hamot after a brief illness.
Pia was born April 2, 1918 in Erie Pa., a daughter of the late Aurelio and Tomasina DiNicola Scalzitti. She was a lifelong resident of Erie.
Pia was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School Class of 1936. She worked for Metropolitan Insurance Company her entire career, many of those years as an Office Supervisor.
Pia was fiercely dedicated to her faith and family. A long-time member of St Stephens R.C. Church, she enjoyed publishing the weekly church bulletin for many years and attending parish functions. Pia took great pride in hosting Sunday morning family gatherings almost every week for more than 50 years. Her favorite event of the year was her annual Christmas Day Brunch, complete with her legendary parlor games, which was enjoyed by many generations in her much loved, West 21st Street family home. Pia also provided loving personal care through extended illnesses to her mother, brother John and sister Anna.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, John R . Scalzitti and Eugene A. Scalzitti; her sister, Anna D Scalzitti; a sister- in- law, Irene Placidi Scalzitti; niece, Daria Scalzitti Rubino and brother- in- law, Claude Harris.
Pia is survived by a brother, Tim Scalzitti, Sr. of Erie; a sister, Geraldine Scalzitti Harris of Yountville, Calif.; nephews, Tim Scalzitti Jr., Thomas Scalzitti, Michael Scalzitti all of Erie and John Scalzitti (Mary Louise) of Brecksville, Ohio; nieces, Patricia Scalzitti Emery (Edward) of Highland Hts., Ohio, Pamela Scalzitti Kwiatkowski (James) of Erie, and Michele Scalzitti Ament (Steven)of Pittsburgh, Pa. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews, as well as several great, great nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Wednesday at St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church, 1237 West 21st Street, at 11:30 a.m. Private interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the charity of one's choice. To send condolences visit www.orlandofuneralhome.com.

Pia's first cousin from Jeannette, Gloria Walker died July 14. She and Pia spent a lot of time together and hopefully will now see each other in heaven once again. Gloria had a massive stroke. Now we miss them both!

This was a great lady she always told me how much she loved me I brought her a beautiful cross from India; I was supposed to take aunt pia to see dr vora on my birthday
y August14 and we where going to give her the cross this was aunt pia's wishes.well aunt pia was not there however the cross was delivered at 11am on 14 Aug ad promised

Dear aunt Pia , now you are in heaven with gramma and grandpa and your loving sister Ann . I will never forget all the stories you would tell us about the old days and the way you remembered all the old Italian relatives ,thanks to you we remained connected to our past. Pia, you added so much to my many visits to Erie. I'm so glad when we recently visited you were well and able to enjoy our lunch at the German Club. No one who knew you could forget you. Thanks for being an inspiration to a younger cousin.

To a beautiful person with a heart of gold she always treated me as part of the family and always called Me her odopted nephew.
