My love,
How can it be a year? It seems like yesterday and much too long, all at the same time. I don't want it to be a year since we've been apart. I miss you so.
Love, Val

My love,
It's hard to believe almost a year has passed. Christmas wasn't the same without you. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of you and say your name. I hope you and Sasha are enjoying long walks in the sunshine. All my love,

It's a beautiful summer day. The kind of day when we would spend the entire evening poolside, not going in until it was too dark to see. Good friends have helped me get the pool going. I just wish you were here to enjoy it. I'm searching the sky for eagles.
Love, Val

Val... So sorry to hear of Rick's passing. Worked with him at the Charity Golf Classic for the last five years. He was always so up-beat and energetic, even three years ago when the cancer battle started. The saying is so true "the good die young". Best wishes and may God bless you.

Valerie and Shirley,

My thoughts had turned to Rick very often since I saw him at our McDowell class reunion, and found about his fight. He was always so full of life! Although I hadn't seen him much in recent years, he's one person I loved to run into, and always appreciated him as a friend since our days at Kearsarge Elementary School. We will all miss him!

I just found out that Rick passed away. I am very sorry for your loss. He was really a great human being and a great carpenter. We went through our apprenticeship together and had a lot of great times over the years.
I think Loaf's greatest quality was his positive attitude. He never forgot his friends, even the ones he didn't get to see as often. The last few times we talked, we talked as much about me as we did him. His attitude about his disease was inspiring, as well as the courageous way he battled it. Although he leaves a huge hole in the lives of his friends, I personally feel his example will better the lives of the people he knew. I wish I could have talked to him a few more times. When I see eagles I will think of him.

Val....I was so sorry to hear of Rick's passing. May all your good memories help you through the rough days ahead.

I am glad I was able to spend some time with you both last summer. Please know that you always have a place to stay on the Outer Banks. You and Marci should come down this summer.

I will keep you in my prayers.

rick will be truly missed by some of the last old school carpenters left in the union.he was not afraid to tell you just exactly what he was thinking and that was appreciated by classic carpenters.we will be less of a brotherhood for the loss of him.

Dear Val,

I was saddened to hear of your husband's passing. My thoughts and prayers have been with you. May your family, friends, God, memories,

To our dear Beth and to Shirley and to Rick's wife, Valerie
We well know the agony of loosing a beloved son to cancer. You know that he is now in God's hands and that he is no longer in pain but that doesn't really make any sense does it? We pray that you will have strength during this awful time and that your faith will sustain you and that God wll help your healing. Remember the good times and be grateful that the bad times have ended. Much love to you all...

Aunt Shirley, Daryl, Duane and Beth et al of the Laufenberg families, I know Rick is in a better place and free of pain. I also know that those thoughts don't help with the pain of his loss. My heart, my prayers and my love go out to each of you. Linda and I will be making a $100 donation to help break this chain of cancer that has held our family so long in it's terrible grip. May God bless each of you and cradle Rick in His loving arms...we will all be together again...Love, Jeanne Getschow Cole
