Rose Damico Obituary

Rose Anasti Damico, age 90, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 26, 2013, surrounded by her family, at her residence. Born January 9, 1923 in Sykesville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Manarino Anasti. She worked at Hammermill Paper Company for ten years, as a paper realer, and also as an engraver for Custom Products Inc. Rose was also deeply involved in politics, as she was the campaign manager for Al Benedict when he ran for city controller. Rose was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. However, she will be most remembered for her dedication to her family as a loving mother and wife. She was an avid bowler, mostly at the Polish Falcons. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Joseph A. Damico, who passed away in 1995; four sisters, Victoria Castoline, Julia Singorilli, Josephine Samanaka and Lucy Lacny; three brothers, Rudolph, Albert, and Frank Anasti. Survivors include her loving children, Cheryl Sornberger, husband Rick and Joseph A. Damico III, both of Erie; a brother, James Anasti; five grandchildren, Melissa, Ann, Gabby, Livy and Lexi and several nieces and nephews and also great-nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Brugger Funeral Homes & Crematory, LLP, 1595 West 38th Street, at Greengarden Boulevard. Services will be held there on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Rose's family would like to say a special "Thank You," to the Staff at Golden Living Walnut Creek and to all the aids and staff that took care of her at her home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2115 West 38th Street, Erie, PA 16506. Condolences and photos may be sent at www.bruggerfuneralhomes.com.

Joe, Cheryl, Melissa,

Thank you for the time you allowed me to know Rose. The memories Joe has shared reminded me of my little Italian grandma and the old days. Thank you for that. May you find peace in your faith, and comfort in your many memories of Rose. She is soaring the skies of our Lord and resting in the arms of the angels. God Bless... wish I could of met her in better days.

Joey, Cheryl, & Rick,
We lost another pillar of the old St. Patrick's neighborhood. We were so blessed to be raised by wonderful parents, and you had one of the best Moms ever. I'm afraid we won't see many like her anymore. Hard working, always a smile, and always time for her kids, and her kids' friends. And what a wonderful family she raised. If she isn't in heaven, none of us stands a chance. May God bless her & you with His love & peace.
