Walter Deacon Obituary

Walter E. “Butch” Deacon, II, MS, MBA, PE, MD Butch Deacon, 62, died at his residence in Erie on September 18, 2006. He was born in Scranton, Pa. on November 17, 1943, the son of the late Walter E. and Jean Churchill Deacon. He was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Engineering Science. Upon Graduation, he became a tactical fighter pilot, flying 200 combat missions in Vietnam. During his service there, he was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses for heroism and 11 Air Medals. After his service in Vietnam, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, earning a Masters Degree in solid State Physics and Metallurgy. He then retuned to the Air Force Academy as a Teaching Instructor, where he simultaneously earned a Masters of Business Administration at the University of Colorado. Butch then obtained his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his Residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California in San Francisco. Following his Residency, he went into private practice as an Orthopedic surgeon for 20 years. Survivors include, a brother, Joel Deacon, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; two sons, Walter E. “Stormy” Deacon, III, of Erie, and James W. “Dusty” Deacon of Washington, DC; three grandchildren also survive. No public Calling hours will be held. Private services with Full Military Honors will be held at the United States Air Force Academy at the Convenience of the Family. The Brugger home for Funerals, 1595 W. 38th. St. is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8th St. Erie, PA 16505. I am deeply saddened by the news of Butch's passing. He was an inspirational person to all that knew him. I knew him many years ago & just by searching to contact him once again, I was regretfully given the sad news. My heart goes out to his son's & family.
He was truly a person whom you would never forget.
I only wish I was able to reconnect,reminsce & laugh with him one last time.
My heart will forever feel his loss.
Thank you Butch for being such a dedicated Fan of Redwood Medical Clinic's Soft Ball Team in Redwood City, CA.
It was so many years ago & you were never forgotten.
