Donald R. Korbobo

Donald R. Korbobo, 78, of Bloomsbury, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, surrounded by his Family.
Born August 5, 1947, in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of the late Rudolph "Ritz" and Virginia (Atkinson) Korbobo.
Don graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1965, where he played football all four years while in Honors studies. He proudly, repeatedly, told the story about the 2 touchdowns he caught in the Historically Rivaled PBurg-Easton Thanksgiving Day game in 1963, wearing #52. Pburg beat Easton all 4 consecutive years in a row at that time. He received a B.S. Degree in Forestry from Rutgers University. He also received two Master's Degrees from Yale University, specializing in Forest Genetics. He attended Yale with a Full Scholarship, received on Merit, and did most of the work for a PhD.
Don is Co-Owner of Nybrook Nursery, Inc., Hampton, NJ which is his Legacy. He joined Nybrook Nursery in the late 60's while attending Rutgers. He also worked as a NJ State Nursery Inspector walking and inspecting tree farms. He also worked in the Science Lab with James River Corporation, always working and testing wood pulp for paper products. He retired as a Manager of the Horticulture Dept, from Somerset County Park Commission, NJ, where he worked for 25+ years. He very much enjoyed working with and was very fond of his Team Members there.
He served for years as a volunteer on the Board of Education, Bloomsbury Elementary School, where he was past President, while his children attended there.
Don truly loved his Family dearly and was endlessly proud and thankful to have it. He especially looked forward to his favorite Thanksgiving Day gathering each year, sharing quality time and home cooking with US ALL, making and cherishing memories. He was of high intelligence and had endless knowledge. He lived simply and was happy with what he had. He had strength and integrity. He was an honest, loveable, kind, caring, humorous and generous man. He always treated everyone fairly and evenly. He loved learning. He had predominant self control and we almost never saw him angry. He enjoyed small game hunting with his beloved dog Mindy, who in one season kicked up over 20 pheasants to put food on the table. He was always thankful for his life long friends, the late Albert F. Andresen and the late Thomas A. Wyant, for getting him into hunting in the early 70's, which in turn we are ALL into enjoying hunting and the outdoors. He took pride in using his recurve, during the Archery seasons, and never felt the need to upgrade to the compound bows of today's technology. Don was referred to as the Legendary "Honchie" all through these years with the garage gang hunting boys and we carry that name through with each other as Korbobo's. Don was an outdoorsman with a passion for trees! He watched and waited for them to grow! He was a NJ State Certified Tree Expert. He was an NRA member and Honored Our Veterans Protecting Our Country. He was of the Presbyterian faith. Our Dad brought us Nybrook Nursery and he will be Honored and Remembered throughout Eternity!
Surviving are three sons, Donald R. Korbobo (Julie DeLura), of Bloomsbury, NJ, Brian D. Korbobo (Kristen), of Alpha, NJ and Matthew R. Korbobo (Janelle Pfund), of Bloomsbury, NJ; a Daughter, Wendy Trimmer (Art Weiler), of Bloomsbury, NJ; seven Grandchildren, BreAnna Billings (Dylan), Haylee Korbobo, Colton Korbobo (Steph), Olivia Korbobo, Matthew Trimmer, Raymond Korbobo (Alex) and Jessica Korbobo; three Great-Grandchildren, Holly Korbobo, Aliza Billings and Walker Korbobo; a brother, David B. Korbobo (Marie), of Bangor, PA; his former wife Carol Piazza (George), of Lebanon Township, NJ; a niece Lisa Rockafellow (Brian Krosencky) and Great Nephew Rylan Krosencky. Don considered the late Fred Fox and Joseph Courter Jr. as his 4th and 5th Sons. He recently has had a student named Carl, a Rutgers graduate, whom he was teaching everything he knows about trees.
Days before Don's passing, he was asked: "Dad, what's the genus and species name of the Japanese cut leaf maple right there outside your window? He quickly answered: "Acer Palmatum."
