LENOIR CITY, TN
November 2, 1941–October 3, 2024
Eleanor Jean Mock, 82, of Lenoir City, TN, peacefully departed this life and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on October 3 after a lengthy illness. She was a devout Christian and lived her faith daily with her kindness and love for others. Her greatest joy came from being with her family and friends.
Eleanor was born November 2, 1941 in Pottsville, PA to the late Dean and Margaret (Heffner) Mock of Pine Grove, PA. She graduated from Pine Grove High School in 1959 and Harrisburg Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She devoted her life to her family, leaving her position as a registered nurse when her first child was born. She returned to her career at Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth, PA in 1985, caring for its residents until her retirement in 2003.
She loved to explore new places and traveled throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Iceland, several Caribbean islands and the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. She spent a month in Costa del Sol, Spain, enjoying the country's vibrant culture and natural beauty, an experience she spoke of fondly. Ballroom dancing with friends was also an activity she looked forward to every week.
She lived in Charleston, SC and Gastonia, NC before rejoining her family in Pennsylvania in 1970. She was proud of her Pennsylvania Dutch roots but never forgot the warmth and kindness of Southern hospitality. She returned to the South in 2013, settling in Lenoir City and becoming a member of First Baptist Church Lenoir City.
Eleanor cherished moments with her family and will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Janice (Eric) Lewine of Apex, NC; son Geoffrey (Nicole) Deichert of Lenoir City; grandchildren Matthew, Stephen, Sarah, Cody, Andrew and Lindsey; great-granddaughters Mackenzie, Miley and Aurora; brother Ronald Mock, and nephews Vincent and Thomas. She was predeceased by a son, Mark Robert Deichert.
Her family and friends feel blessed they got to be a part of her life for as long as they did. Through Jesus Christ, she has been granted everlasting life. In Heaven, we will meet again.
The family will hold a private service for Eleanor on her birthday, November 2. They also thank the dedicated staff of Grace Home Care Manor and Gentiva Hospice for the comfort and care they provided her.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Lenoir City or to a
