Eugene Thomas 'Gene' Engler BANGOR Eugene Thomas "Gene" Engler, 66, of Bangor, PA went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 11th, after a long struggle with pancreatic cancer. Gene was born in Easton, PA on December 1, 1954, a son of Francis J. Engler, Sr., of Bangor, PA, and the late Kathryn (James) Engler. Gene was a self-employed general contractor with a reputation for being very knowledgeable, trustworthy, and always willing to help a neighbor in need. He was also appreciated for his trademark sense of humor. He was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1972. Gene welcomed challenges of a mechanical, earthly nature and built his own unique log home and farmstead. However, his Christian faith was foremost in his life. He enjoyed attending various churches and often liked to share his spiritual experience with others. In addition to his father, Francis Sr., Gene is survived by three sisters, Linda Herczeg, wife of Gary, of Bethlehem, PA; Nancy Rutt, wife of Robert, of Stroudsburg, PA; Cindy Stocker, companion of Edward W. Pilz, of Bangor, PA; a brother, Francis J Engler, Jr., husband of Cynthia, of Bangor, PA; a sister-in-law, Sheree Engler; seven nieces and nephews, and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his mother Kathryn (James) Engler, and a brother Edward Engler. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 31st at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 404 Broadway, Bangor, PA. Family and friends are invited to call from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday, July 31st at the church. Interment will be private at the convenience of the Family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gaffney Parsons Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. "Village of Johnsonville" Bangor, PA. Online condolences may be offered at gaffneyparsons.com. Gene cared very much that all people have access to clean, safe drinking water. Memorial contributions may be made to Lifetoday.org/donate/waterforlife. He also had a heart for animals in need. Memorial contributions could also be made to A.W.S.O.M., 3129 Godfrey Ridge Drive Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Gaffney-Parsons Funeral Home 4 Lillian Lane Bangor, PA 18013 (610) 588-2128

Gene was an honest friend and a contractor you knew always did a good job. I enjoyed his company when he came to my house and the Christian lifestyle he brought with him every day. He has gone to his Lord and we should rejoice in his life as we remember his time with us.

Eugene was my husband’s friend since their childhoods. He was our closest and dearest neighbor since 1996. He will be sorely missed for so many reasons. There are far too many to mention hear, but fortunately, we did let him know recently. This neighborhood will never be the same. Sending our sincerest condolences to his family. To Eugene we say, we are glad your suffering is over, and we know you are rejoicing in the presence of your Lord and Savior. It was a pleasure knowing you buddy.
Look over us and continue to guide us all in the right direction.

I am saddened to hear of Genes passing. I have known Gene since the elementary school days. In the later years, he became my go to for all my motorcycle repairs. Gene was one of the best I have ever known. A quiet, reserved man, but always willing to help anybody in need. He will be missed. My condolences to the Engler family. Thank you Gene for being a good friend all these years. May your suffering be over and may you always Rest In Peace.

Gene nicknamed me "Karbear" back in 1990. So I started calling him "Teddy Bear". It's just who and what he was. Always willing to help someone out. A great big softy. The last time I visited we recalled some of the funny times we shared. It was so good to see him laugh. I laughed so hard my gut hurt. That made him laugh even harder. Heaven definitely gained another angel. I will miss him a lot. RIP my forever friend!
