John Robert McKinnon

John Robert McKinnon, 68, died at his home in Comer on Oct. 25, 2009, after a long battle with cancer.
Visitation with his family will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Chapman Funeral Home of Eufaula. His funeral service will be held at Comer Methodist Church at 3 p.m. on Oct. 28, with grave-side service to follow at Old Spring Hill Methodist Church.
Mr. McKinnon was preceded in death in 2000 by his first wife, Patricia Myer McKinnon, and is survived by his second wife, Penelope V. Cain. He is survived by a son, John Robert (Sylvia) McKinnon, Jr,; a daughter, Mendolyn Myer McKinnon; granddaughters, Sarah Johnanne Edwards and Olivia Patricia-Anne Silano; grandsons, Robert Peyton McKinnon, Daniel McKinnon, Robert Anthony Silano, III, Dominic Samuel Silano, and Patricia's mother, Flora Hargrove Durbin.
John Robert McKinnon was born on June 19, 1941, the son of the late Neil A. McKinnon, Jr., and the late Pearl Bush McKinnon of Comer. He was preceded in death by a brother, Neil A. McKinnon III, and is survived by a brother, Donald J. (Wanda) McKinnon, a sister, Yvonne McKinnon Weimer, several nieces and nephews, and his step-mother, Anne T. McKinnon.
John Robert McKinnon was also survived by step-children, Lacy Harrison (Richard) Goodwin and Robert Lyle (Amber) Cain, Jr. and by the following step-grandchildren, Robert Harrison Goodwin, Gwendolyn Elizabeth Goodwin, Katherine Alexander Goodwin, and Madelyn Leigh Cain, all of whom became very special parts of his life during the past few years.
Mr. McKinnon graduated from Eufaula High School in 1958, where he served as president of the student council and played on the football team. He graduated from Auburn University in 1962. He belonged to Sigma Nu fraternity and majored in business administration.
He worked for more than 25 years with Sears Roebuck & Company, where he retired. After his retirement from Sears, he was involved in several business activities, especially Betco, from which he retired in August.
Over the years he has lived in several cities, including Decatur, Ga.; Johnson City, Tenn.: Decatur; Anniston; Plantation, Fla.; and Hoover. He was active in church activities at each location
Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. John Thompson and Charlie K. Belflower. Pallbearers will be Scy Thomas, Lee Reeves, Lavern Barrs, Harry Vaughn, Wimberly Smith, Martin Prewitt, Stewart England and Billy Beasley. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Childree, Jack Powell, Allison Grant, Albert Simpson, Frank Grant, and Bob's Sigma Nu fraternity brothers from Auburn.
Chapman Funeral Home of Eufaula will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
