Armin Hostetter Obituary

HANOVER Armin H. Hostetter, 87, entered into God's eternal care Thursday, January 29, 2015, at his home. He was the loving husband of Frances (Barnes) Hostetter, who passed May 15, 1995. Born September 8, 1927, in Hanover, he was the son of the late A. Irvin and K. Mabel (Hetrick) Hostetter. Armin was a lifetime member of Hanover Church of the Brethren. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1946 and was a three sport letterman. After school he continued to play sports, including semi-pro football with the York White Rose and Chambersburg Cardinals, and baseball with the Brushtown Bulldogs. It is important to note that he tried out as a catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Armin enjoyed racing motorcycles with his brothers. His highlights were racing in the Daytona 200 on the Beach of Daytona for the Norton factory and being inducted into the York County Racing Club's "Hall of Fame." After his racing career, he became a lifetime farmer following his father's footsteps. He founded Trail-Way Speedway in 1972. He also began Motorama Events in 1978 which are held at the Harrisburg Farm Show Complex. Mr. Hostetter began and organized the York Adams Elementary Football League and served as the President and Historian. He also served on the Littlestown School Board, was a member of the American Motorcycle Association, McSherrystown Fish and Game, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks #763 of Hanover, and served as the past president of the Rotary Club International of Hanover. Armin especially enjoyed greeting people as they arrived at the racetrack as well as bowling, hunting and playing cards. Mr. Hostetter is survived by his sons, Barry S. Hostetter and his wife, Ella, Bradley J. Hostetter and his wife, Cindy, and Perry B. Hostetter and his companion, Mary Rickrode, all of Hanover; his grandchildren, Scott R. Hostetter of Jefferson, Lindsay B. Masenheimer and her husband, Joshua R. of Hanover, Amber Hostetter Jacobsen and her husband, Jacob of Annapolis, Md., Brock J. Hostetter and his wife, Carrie of Lafayette, Colo., and Mercedee L. Hostetter of York New Salem; his five great-grandchildren; and his companion, Fern Hess. He was preceded in death by his seven brothers and sisters. Visitation and a time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015, at Hanover First Church of God, 600 Fairview Drive, Hanover. Funeral services and burial in Hostetter's Meeting House Church Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family. The Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Armin to the York County Racing Club, Injured Drivers Fund, 568 S. Yale St., York, PA 17403; or to the York Adams Elementary Football League (Y.A.E.F.L.), P.O. Box 1254, Hanover, PA 17331. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.kenworthyfh.com

Armin was a very special part of our family. He could certainly make really good potato salad and scallop potatoes. He always made all of us laugh by saying something funny, pulling a prank on one of us or just doing something so
unexpected. He was a very special part of the whole "Hartzel" side of the family. We all miss him greatly.

to my Cousins, Brad & Cindy, Barry & Ella & Perry & Mary and families - I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Armin's passing. I have such fond memories of our visits when we were kids. Even a few years back, he was such a great host when I took my great-nephews back there and that was one of the highlights of their trip. He always made us feel special. My Dad used to say he had a way that made you feel like a million bucks. - that was his way of saying that he and Aunt Fran were so great to us when we went back. He has done so much in the community. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
